Motorola brings the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 media edition tablets to the UK

Motorola announced they are finally bringing the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Family Edition to the UK via the Carphone Warehouse. These are the same tablets as the DROID XYBOARD 10.1 and XYBOARD 8.2 that are available now in the U.S. Starting today, Carphone Warehouse will have 3G and WIFI variants starting at just £299.99 ($475).

Both the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition feature a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 10.1-inch (XOOM 2) or 8.2-inch (Media Edition) (1280 x 800) display, 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear camera, 1.3 front camera, 16GB of internal storage, Gorilla Glass, splashguard coating, and Android 3.2.

[Leak] Newest Verizon MAP Outs DROID XYBOARD Pricing

Thanks to a recent surfacing of Verizon’s latest MAP (minimum advertised price), we finally get a taste of how they plan to price the new Motorola tablets. Yes, those ones with that god-awful name, DROID XYBOARD. It also looks like there is a possibility that the tablets will arrive in stores during the second week of December, but… well, you know how that story usually ends.

Prices will start at $429 for the 8-inch 16GB model, and can go up to as much as $729 for the 10-inch 64GB version. We figure these to be prices on-contract because they line up with the current pricing for the 4G Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This seems to be rather steep pricing given the fact the original Moto tablets didn’t sell very well. Thankfully Motorola has stepped up the specs this time around because expensive or not, I think these tabs are going to be a hit.

Verizon roadmap shows week of November 21 for Samsung Galaxy Nexus release, Motorola XOOM 2 to release on November 30

I know everyone is excited to hear something official on the release date for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon Wireless. Although we do have some news, nothing is concrete.

The latest Verizon roadmap (pictured above) shows w/o of 11/21 for the Galaxy Nexus. This can be taken two ways. There is some speculation that it means “web only”, but I think it means “week of”. We’re also told that this document is a work-in-progres so it isn’t final.

Pricing For XOOM 2, XOOM 2 Media Edition Surface

Now that we’ve gotten the official announcement for Motorola’s new XOOM tablets out of the way, the question on everyone’s mind is when and how much? Unfortunately, I have no information on the launch date but Eroudroid is reporting that they have the scoop on price already.

Online retailer, Clove, is saying the tablets will be more expensive than the original XOOM with the XOOM 2 coming in at £390 ($620) and the XOOM 2 Media Edition running £358 ($569). These prices are a bit steeper than the original tab’s £329 ($523) price tag but, given the updated specs and features this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Motorola to unveil the RAZR (aka Spyder) on October 18

Motorola quietly introduced a teaser video on their Facebook page and sent out invites for an event on October 18 in New York City. The first thoughts that came to mind are the new XOOM 2, XOOM 2 Media Edition, and XOOM Family Edition tablets we have been telling you about, or maybe even the RAZR. It so happens that the image above was sent via email and was saved as “spyderlaunchinvite,” so it’s obvious that we will see the Spyder. The question is if it will be marketed as the Spyder, the RAZR, or even have some DROID branding (the red light in the picture hints at this).

It’s possible that we could still see the tablets as well since they should be launching in November or December. For now it’s just a guess, but we will be sure to give you the full scoop next Tuesday, or if anything breaks before then.

Verizon’s Celebrite hints at two new Xoom tablets, “Pasteur” and “Fleming”

Verizon’s Cellebrite system has been giving us a bevy of goodies to look forward to in the up coming months. Last week we noticed the Droid HD, HTC Vigor, and the Nexus prime pop up and today we can add two more to the list. The two new Motorola tabs we’ve previously mentioned, Xoom 2 and The Xoom 2 “Media Edition” (a.k.a. Fleming) have now been entered into Cellebrite, Verizon’s phone-to-phone data transfer machine.

The Xoom 2 that was first leaked a few weeks ago has the model number MZ617 and the new moniker “Pasteur”. It will be the follow up to the original Xoom and sports a “faster” 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 1080p HD recording, and supposedly will have battery life up to 11 hours.

The second Moto tablet listed, MZ609 “Fleming”, which I suspect is the smaller media-focused Xoom, is rumored to have a screen size of either 7″ or 8.2″ depending on which source you fancy. My bets are on the rumor of a 8.2″ IPS anti-glare display weighing in at .95 pounds. After all, the larger of the two screens would be more appropriate for media and would still be small enough for easy portability.

This is the first time we have seen the new code name and model number but, with the previous photos and rumors running around you can pretty much bet that this will in fact be the new media tab from Moto.

Motorola XOOM 2 tablets could ship this November and December

Ever since this past weekend when the Motorola XOOM 2 and XOOM2 Media Edition were leaked and captured on camera, everybody wants to know when they will be released. DigiTimes is reporting that they will ship in November and December. They are reporting there is a 10.1-inch version and a 7-inch version. They could be incorrect with the 7-inch screen size, but don’t forget there was a leaked photo of a 7-inch version, and we did hear of the possibility that they will offer a XOOM 2 Mini. We also heard the 7-inch was possibly scrapped in favor of the 8.2-inch Media Edition.

We can’t be surprised of this news since Sanjay Jha did say there would be 2 more LTE tablets this year. We know the XOOM 2 and the XOOM 2 Media Edition will have LTE, so it’s most likely going to be those two devices, and not the Mini.

[Leak] Motorola XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition pose together

We’ve already seen leaked pics and specs for the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition, but we have bunch more, which shows the two of them enjoying some time together. We mentioned in our previous post there were some rear-facing buttons. We now know they are for power and volume. We had heard the name “Fleming” for the XOOM 2 Media Edition, but the tipster says both of them are using the same codename.

We can also confirm that both of the tabs have Android 3.2, 5MP HD rear cameras, and LTE compatibility. Hit the break for a lot more pictures including an appearance of the iPhone 4 for comparing thickness.

[Leak] Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition with 8.2-inch IPS display

It seems to be a Motorola weekend as we showed you pictures and specs for the upcoming Motorola XOOM 2 and the RAZR. Now we have info on the XOOM 2 Media Edition (codename Fleming). The Media Edition will have an 8.2-inch HD IPS display with an anti-glare coating and weigh a mere 0.95 pounds, which would allow it to easily be held in one hand. The chassis is made of a combination of magnesium and aluminum, and the display is made of Gorilla Glass. If that isn’t enough, it’s “splash” proof.

In our post yesterday we mentioned there might be some sort of an IR blaster add on with the XOOM 2. It looks like the Media Edition will come with the integrated IR remote, and Motorola is added a subwoofer for better sound.

Could this be the same 7-inch Motorola tablet that leaked last week? It could be, but there are reports they might be working on a XOOM Mini which would mean they’re still planning on launching a 7-inch version.

Stay tuned as it looks like Motorola is really going to be stepping up their tablet game for the 4th quarter.
