About a week ago, Huawei unveiled the world’s thinnest smartphone, the Ascend P6. Not to be outdone, Chinese company Umeox has unveiled their latest device, the X5, that is somehow unbelievably thinner than the Ascend P6. The X5 is just 5.6mm thin, which is a full 0.5mm thinner than the Ascend. That half a millimeter doesn’t sound like much, but when you’re talking about over 10% of the device’s body, that’s pretty impressive.
The X5 is sporting a larger 5.3 inch screen of unknown resolution powered by a dual-core processor with an 8 megapixel rear camera and 3 megapixel front-facing camera. It’s running Android 4.2.2 out of the box and is slated for a release in France later this summer. Anybody else think these phones might be getting too thin?

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the X5 smartphone— also known as the world’s thinnest smartphone. This intriguing device is developed by Umeox— a brand that’s quite popular in China, but a fairly relative unknown elsewhere in the world and comes in at 118 x 60 x 5.6mm. The 5.6mm profile effectively makes the device the world’s thinnest smartphone as of this time— taking the title from Huawei’s Ascend P6 for the time being.
Unfortunately, while the device will come in a thin profile, there is little else known about what will be inside of the device— so we don’t know what processor will be used or what type of camera will come with the phone until its July release date. Fortunately— the device will arrive with Jelly Bean loaded up, so that can be a bit of some silver lining for prospective customers out there.
The Umeox Apollo smartphone from Intivation is a fresh new look at how mobile technology can be fused with Green technology. This little device has a solar-powered back, built-in flashlight, and runs Android 2.2. All packed in this neat little body is 320×480 capacitive touchscreen in a 3.2 inch display (about the size of an HTC Magic/T-Mobile MyTouch), bluetooth 2.1, 3 megapixel camera on the rear, 3.5mm headphone jack, MicroSD support, 1GB storage, and 512MB RAM. Also, it’s only 100g weight. thats what you get when you take out those big batteries I guess.
Pretty nice looking device, and a cheap price! $100 is all you’ll need to grab one of these, but don’t expect it to be a super fast device, basic smartphone usage will be lots for it to handle.
