Remember that monster phablet from Sony, the Xperia ZU? If you’re in the market for devices that big, we’ve got some more details on a release date and the hardware behind the ZU. According to Taiwanese site ePrice, Sony will make the Xperia ZU official on June 25th, which fortunately isn’t too far off. ePrice also listed some specs for the device, including that massive 6.4-inch, 1080p screen. The ZU will be one of the first devices to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 CPU, clocked at 2.2 GHz, and will also feature 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, an 8 MP rear camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery. Compared to phones of similar size, that battery isn’t particularly large, (the Galaxy Note II has a 3,100 mAh battery, for reference) but hopefully some extreme software optimization from Sony and Qualcomm’s latest monster processor will keep battery life as a positive for the device.
As soon as June 25th rolls around, we’ll keep you up to date on Sony’s official announcement.
Last week we shared a leaked photo of what looked like the upcoming Sony ‘Togari’ phablet— today we have some confirmation that this phone is very real and is coming very soon by the name of the Sony Xperia ZU.
Unfortunately, the device will not feature a 13MP camera as rumored, but instead an 8MP shooter due to shortage of said modules. The phone will pack a 6.44-inch 1080p Triluminos color display, the X-Reality Engine which enhances the color and contrast of your images and videos, and is water resistant.
The Xperia ZU will also come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.3 GHz. This phone is looking like it’s going to be an absolute beast and we can expect to see it officially announced at Sony’s mobile event in Germany on June 25.

There is speculation that the Sony phone in the photo above could be their upcoming 6.44-inch Xperia device codenamed Togari, and that the HTC device above and to the right of Sony’s device could be the rumored HTC M4. It’s hard to tell the exact size of these devices to match them with their leaked specs, considering the awkward angle of the photo, but it seems about right. However, recent reports are saying that the photo is indeed a hoax, and Nokia has even released a statement saying that the blue Nokia Windows 8 device in the top right of the photo is not real. We’ll just have to wait to find out the truth on this photo. Check back for more updates.

Sony has two flagship models slated for release later in 2013, and we’re finally hearing some details about the pair of devices. According to a device tester, the Togari device will sport a 6.44 inch, 1080p screen with a similar body style to the glass Xperia Z, as well as a white option, similar to the Z. The phablet could possibly be released in July in Japan, although there’s no word on when or if it would make it’s way to other markets.
The whispers are suddenly starting to become screams and shouts about a new Sony phablet that’s on the way. In case you’re not familiar, Sony has a smartphone codenamed “Togari” that is expected to measure in with a 6.44-inch panel surrounding the device. According to Ramu from the Esato forums, Sony plans on equipping its phablet beast with a Snapdragon 800 series processor, a 6-inch (or larger) full HD screen, a 3,500mAh battery and wait for it—- an actual stylus that would compliment the device is possibly in the works as well.
So while it is still a little early to tell, it appears that Sony certainly is intent on making a Galaxy Note III killer and take a major bite of the phablet market share. We know you are all itching to grab more deets, so head on down to the source link to get a better idea of what Sony is cooking.
