It may be the start of the holiday season, but there are always great deals available for prospective smartphone shoppers looking to grab a sweet phone that won’t break the bank. In fact, there used to be the notion that in order to grab a phone under $100 on-contract, you’d have to settle for an outdated or budget-level device. However that notion is no longer the case as customers across all carriers can easily find a decent (if not great) device for a reasonable price. Of course figuring out which device may be a bit difficult, but don’t fret— Talk Android has you covered as we’ve come up with a solid guide with our recommendations of the best devices for under $100 on-contract for your respective wireless carrier. So without further ado, head on past the break to see our picks of the best devices that won’t break the bank.
LG announced the Spectrum 2 available today on Verizon for $99 with a two-year contract. The Spectrum sequel gets bumped up to a 4.7-inch True HD IPS 720p display, sports a dual-core 1.5GHz processor Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 , 8-megapixel rear camera, and 16GB of internal storage with a microSD slot. If those specs sound familiar it’s because this is the same phone leaked by Best Buy last week.
The Spectrum 2 doesn’t quite measure up to LG’s quad-core Optimus G or Nexus 4 but at $99 your wallet won’t mind too much. Unlike the Nexus 4, it won’t run Android 4.2 just yet in favor of Ice Cream Sandwich, but it can take advantage of Verizon’s market-leading LTE network.
Full Press Release after the break
In a bit of a change of pace as far as “leaks” go about new devices, this one comes to us courtesy a big box retailer. In this case, Best Buy has established the product page for the LG Spectrum 2 smartphone. It is not clear whether this is some mistake on the part of Best Buy or a sign that they are getting a jump on Verizon. The product page confirms many of the hardware specs we thought would be present in the LG Spectrum 2. These include a 1.5GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor, a 4.7-inch, 1280×720 HD display, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and 4G LTE capability. This is not surprising as the Spectrum 2 is mostly a rebadged LG Optimus LTE II.
Our friends at Phone Arena received the latest Verizon roadmap and it shows some interesting stuff. Now we already know about the upcoming HTC phone sporting a 5-inch display and rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, but this roadmap reveals how they will market it. It looks like it will be called the DROID Incredible X as opposed the the HTC One X 5. According to the map, it will launch in November, just about one year after the Rezound. The model number is ADR6435LVW
With its recent FCC certification and leaked renders, it’s only a matter of time till we see the second edition of the Spectrum on Verizon Wireless. It’s now in the Verizon CelleBrite system (VS-930) so it’s just that much closer. The Spectrum 2 will sport a 4.7-inch True IPS 720p (1280 x 720) display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, 1GB of RAM, and 8MP rear camera. We still don’t have a release date, but we will let you know as soon as more details are leaked.
