As a follow up to last week’s Xperia P Ice Cream Sandwich rollout, Sony Mobile today announced their 2011 Xperia line of phones will be getting new Android 4.0.4 firmware. Starting this week, the first phones to receive the update are the Xperia arc, Xperia arc S, Xperia neo, Xperia neo V, Xperia mini, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Xperia ray. The Ice Cream Sandwich update will bring the usual enhancements, along with bug fixes, performance tweaks and other improvements. In addition, The Xperia mini pro, Xperia neo L and Live with Walkman won’t be left out as they will be updated in the next few weeks.
The update will come in two ways. If you’re already running ICS you’ll receive an OTA update notification, otherwise if you’re running Gingerbread you’ll need to plug in and upgrade using PC companion or Bridge for Mac. For more information, visit http://www.sonymobile.com/update.

Sheesh Sony Ericsson Xperia owners are some lucky individuals. Why are they so lucky you ask? Well– SE Xperia owners suddenly have an extra 50GB of free storage space from Box.net. All owners have to do is download and install the Box.net app on your Xperia phone and register for a free account. It seems that Xperia users will have plenty of time to take advantage of this great find too– you have until December 31, 2012 to take advantage of the great opportunity. Go on SE Xperia owners– time’s wasting!

It’s been some time since we had heard about the Xperia Pro back at MWC 2011, but we hadn’t forgotten about it. Now that parts for Sony Xperia devices are starting to get back to satisfactory levels after the Japan earthquake a few months back this year, Sony Ericsson is pushing ahead with the Xperia Pro release.
The Xperia Pro has been pushed through the FCC for approval, so a September launch date seems achievable and conceivable still. In the gallery below, you’ll see the Xperia Pro taken apart to pieces, showing us the underbelly of the Arc and PLAY’s younger family member… or is it ‘members’. Enjoy!
Sony has been infamous for announcing a product, only to have us wait months for it to it the market. This time around, Sony may be learning that consumers can loose interest much faster than before, especially in the mobile hardware market.
The next wave of Sony Ericsson smartphones to add to the Xperia family appears to be caught on camera. It’s called the Xperia X12, codenamed ANZU (meaning a lesser god of Akkadian mythology) . The ANZU is currently seen running Android 2.1, but sources say this will be launching with Android 2.3 installed.
