ZTE Introduces The Grand S Smartphone, Also Known As The World’s Thinnest 5-Inch And 1080p Smartphone

ZTE is regarded as a brand that has a solid lineup of budget and mid-range smartphones, but is ready to take on the big boys with the introduction of its worst-kept secret– the Grand S smartphone. This beast comes decked out in the latest bells and whistles as it features a beautiful 5-inch 1080p display, 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera and of course, Jelly Bean running the show. While the upcoming superphone will indeed feature a meager 1,780mAh battery— there is a reason for it: the Grand S will feature some dimensions of 142 x 69 x 6.9mm– effectively making it the world’s thinnest 5-inch smartphone at the time of this writing. Impressive indeed, right?

While the specs and form factor are certainly a lot to drool over– the device isn’t headed Stateside anytime soon as it’s set for a Q1 release in China. Hopefully ZTE will come to its senses and launch the smartphone in other markets around the world— we’re pretty sure more than a few of us out here would certainly be interested in holding the world’s thinnest smartphone.

Sony Xperia Z And ZL Smartphones Appear In Subtle Press Shots

It’s a new year so it’s officially time to see some new devices— and Sony has delivered by releasing some press shots of a few new additions to its Xperia line of smartphones. Thanks to a couple of listings on Sony Japan’s website, we finally have been treated to images of the Xperia Z “Yuga” and Xperia ZL “Odin” smartphones. While there are no concrete details of each device’s features, earlier rumors have indicated both will feature 5-inch 1080p LCD displays, quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processors, 2 gigs of RAM and a 13-megapixel Exmor RS sensor on the rear. The main difference between the two? The Xperia ZL looks to be a bit smaller and more compact than the Xperia Z.

So now that the cat has been let out of the bag, it should be too long before we the devices in person at CES next week— which Talk Android will be at in full force by the way.

The Unofficial Sony “Yuga” Smartphone Gets Detailed Preview, Confirms Everything We Thought Previously About The Device

Another day, another tidbit of news regarding the suddenly not-so-secret Sony “Yuga” smartphone. After seeing some teaser photos of the superphone yesterday, we are now treated to a an actual preview of the device, complete with all the spec details you can handle. Thanks to our friends at Mobile Reviews, we now know the “Yuga” will come fully loaded with a 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, 2 gigs of RAM, a microSD card slot, LTE and 12MP camera. In addition to the premium hardware features, the smartphone will come preloaded with Android 4.1 and Sony’s custom UI slapped on top.

So now that the cat is just about out of the bag, it’s just a matter of time before Sony comes out and gives up the deets. Q1 2013 can’t come here soon enough!

Images Of Sony “Yuga” Prototype Surfaces

It’s no secret that Sony has a superphone in the works for 2013, but it appears that we now have an idea of what this device may look like. Thanks to some leaked images from Mobile Review, you can see how the Sony “Yuga” looks in plain view— and she sure is a beauty too. Similar to the Nexus 4 or LG Optimus G smartphones (as well as previous renderings we had seen before), the device is almost entirely coated in a glassy-type material coupled with a sleek black finish. In addition, Mobile Review indicates the smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon-based processor— refuting any type of rumor highlighting the device would possibly be powered by a Samsung Exynos processor.

So now that we’re beginning to see more and more information pour out for this impressive device, all that’s needed now is a better idea of when Sony will finally come out and formally show this device to the masses. Considering Sony has a history of unveiling premium devices at certain January trade shows, we suspect that we’ll likely see something then.

OPPO Launches The Find 5 Smartphone: A Premium Device With A 5-Inch Screen

If you’ve been looking to snag yourself a smartphone that’s bigger than normal, but find devices like the DROID DNA or Galaxy Note II don’t quite strike your fancy, then OPPO may just have the device for you. The Chinese giant has launched its latest device called the Find 5– a superphone with you guessed it a 5-inch IPS display with 441ppi that’s the most noteworthy feature of the device. In addition, the Find 5 has additional bells and whistles like a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 chip, 2 gigs of RAM and Jelly Bean. While it’s nearly identical to the DROID DNA specifically– there are some other things about the Find 5 that distinguish it from the competition: the 13MP camera and sound output. The 13MP camera supports full HDR photography unlike other smartphones, while the Find 5 offers full support for both Dolby 3D and Dirac HD sound– giving users a cinema-quality sound wherever they go. Very impressive indeed.

The phone may be attractive, but many of you are thinking that the device must come at a princely sum, right? Well the device is expected to have a premium price, but it’s likely going to be far less expensive than the competition at or around $500 for the US and Chinese markets. Oh and OPPO plans a major launch of the Find 5 sometime in early 2013 across select markets— so it just means you won’t need to wait too long for the next great thing. Verizon Officially Unleashes HTC DROID DNA Smartphone, Finally Gives Customers Chance To Salivate Over The 1080p Display

Rob Nazarian and I got a chance to see the special device in person during its launch last week and now friends, the time has come for all customers to finally get their hands on what is undoubtedly one of the hottest devices of 2012. Verizon is officially unleashing the HTC DROID DNA in both its stores and online today. The latest entry in Verizon’s DROID line features a quad-core processor, 2 gigs of RAM, Jelly Bean and of course the whopping, but gorgeous 1080p Super LCD3 display. Interested parties can snag the device either from their local Verizon store or order online for $199.99 on-contract or a not-too-bad $599.99 off-contract price.

LG F240K Smartphone Outed In GLBenchmark, Comes Loaded With 1080p Display

Think that LG is content with releasing the Optimus G smartphone this year and calling it a day? Well think again as LG seems to have yet another superphone that’s likely on the way. Thanks to a leaked GLBenchmark score, we see that LG has a mysterious device called the F240K and looks to have all the major bells and whistles of a typical superphone. According to the benchmark, the F240K features a full 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, just like that found in the recently announced HTC DROID DNA smartphone. In addition to the noteworthy 1080p display, the F240K seems to feature a processor (most likely the quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro) clocked at 1.5GHz and will run on Android 4.1.2— not the now-outdated Ice Cream Sandwich.

There are no additional details of the F240K like its display size or how much RAM it’ll have, but now that the device has been outed– we suspect that it won’t be long before we see additional leaks pop up and give us a better idea of what this puppy entails exactly.

Sony CVP Of Sales Asserts A New Flagship Phone Designed To Compete With The iPhone 5 And Galaxy S III Is On The Way

Sony appears to have some big time ambitions for 2013. According to a Financial Times Deutschland interview, Dennis van Schie who is the CVP of Sales & Marketing asserts that Sony clearly intends on having a flagship that will outdo the likes of both the iPhone 5 and even the Galaxy S III. He asserts Sony “will create in the near future a flagship model that can compete with Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S III“. This device will likely have current flagship models like the Xperia Ion variant and Xperia TL pale in comparison to this new and upcoming device. Rumor has it that the device will remain on the cutting edge side of things by featuring a Snapdragon quad-core processor, a 5-inch 1080p screen and perhaps a 12MP camera.

Naturally it sucks that owners who purchased a variant of the Xperia Ion and Xperia TL will have to cope with the fact their device is going to be all but forgotten take a backseat to another flagship device instead. On the other hand, it sure is exciting to see yet another 1080p phone on the horizon, isn’t it? Expect to see more details leak out as we possibly see the introduction of the device at the start of 2013.

Boy oh boy it seems like every Android manufacturer is getting in on the creation of devices with 5-inch+ screens and Sony is no different. If you recall, we’d seen a user agent profile of an alleged Xperia C650X Odin smartphone, but now we have a nice image that gives us an idea of how this phone looks like. As you can clearly see, the Xperia C650X Odin is a beastly looking device highlighting its massive display along with a likely metallic body. Additional rumor has it that the device will feature a Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2 gigs of RAM, but unfornately— there’s no additional details for now. Hopefully we’ll continue to see additional info pour out in the near-future and as soon as we get additional details, we’ll be sure to let you know.

As we patiently wait for October 29th to arrive, we are expecting to see at least one addition to the Nexus family, the LG Nexus. After countless leaks for the past month and much speculation, we think we may finally have a somewhat concrete idea of what the upcoming device giving the true “Google Experience” will offer. The device will as always, introduce new technology— while making existing technology a little bit better.
