This past Thursday, Canadian wireless carrier Telus published a tentative distribution schedule for Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates to devices on their network. Included on the list were the HTC One M9 and HTC One M8 slated to get the update starting on Monday January 18th. That date was validated for the HTC One M9 for several Canadian wireless carriers by HTC’s Mo Versi. Read more
The day is finally here. At least it is if you have an HTC One and using Rogers, TELUS, Bell, Virgin, SaskTel, or WIND as your network provider…
The HTC One is now being updated to Android 4.4 KitKat on the networks listed above. This is all confirmed, straight from the mouth of HTC America’s President and onto this page. Get on your phone and hit Applications >>Settings >> About Phone >> Software Update.
If it’s not there yet, be patient— it’s coming!
Right on cue, the Canadian variant of the Samsung Galaxy S III has begun receiving a heavy scoop of Jelly Bean across the major carriers. The latest update brings the Canadian builds to I747MVLDLK4 and will bring the usual Jelly Bean goodies like Google Now and Project Butter, as well as custom items like a sizable pop-up screen and additional home screen modes. All in all, the official update being launched should make those already awesome devices just a wee bit better.
The update is available now and can be found using Kies Desktop software or if you are the impatient type— you can always go to your Settings and manually grab the update OTA. Happy updating!
The Samsung Galaxy S III is coming to pretty much all Canadian carriers, including TELUS, Bell, Rogers, WIND, Mobilicity, SaskTel, Videotron and Virgin Mobile. The Canadian release date was announced as June 20th, but yesterday on Twitter, Samsung Canada let everyone know the date has slipped by a week to June 27th.
The folks at MobileSyrup received a more detailed statement:
“Due to unprecedented global demand for the highly anticipated Samsung GALAXY S III, with more than 9 million carrier pre-orders to date, the date of availability for purchase of this device in Canada, is now June 27th. In advance of the GALAXY S III availability date, most carriers and retailers are offering customers the chance to register on-line for updates, and some partners are offering their customers the option to pre-order the Galaxy S III. We expect any shortages to be short lived as we ramp up production to meet this unprecedented global demand.”
I guess it’s not a bad problem for Samsung to have.

Rogers and Telus already spilled the beans about the June 20th Canadian release date for the Samsung Galaxy S III, and now Samsung has confirmed this in a press release. Samsung also outlines all the specs of the Canadian variants as well as which carriers will be getting it. Here’s the breakdown:
SGH-i747 (LTE model): Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile, SaskTel, TELUS, and Rogers Wireless.
SGH-iT999 (HSPA+42 model): Videotron, Wind, and Mobilicity.
In the U.S., this could mean the i747 would come to AT&T and the iT999 to T-Mobile, but we’re just speculating. Spec-wise, these two models are very similar to the international versions with a couple of differences.
As we expected, the CPU is a dual-core Qualcomm S4 instead of the quad-core Exynos. The amount of RAM is doubled to a whopping 2GB for both Canadian versions. On the negative side, there will not be a 64GB version available, and the iT999 will only come with 16GB. Not the end of the world, but this may affect the buying decision for some.
Hit the break for the full press release.
Canadian owners of the Samsung Vibrant and Fascinate can be happy finally as Samsung has made the Froyo update available for users on Telus, Sasktel, Vrigin Mobile and Bell Canada!
Let’s hope that Samsung hasn’t included any other bugs in this update as the last Froyo update was pulled by Samsung after hearing about issues with microSD storage. The update should be available through Samsung Kies software for the Galaxy S family. Enjoy!
Who wants Froyo? If you’re a Samsung Vibrant or Fascinate user in Canada, chances are your hand is up right now. Fortunately, it looks like Samsung Canada wants to help you out, as they now have a 2.2 update for:
- Bell Samsung Vibrant
- Virgin Mobile Samsung Vibrant
- SaskTel Samsung Vibrant
- Telus Samsung Fascinate
The update, as per usual, comes to us via Kies, and should come without the bugs from the last round of updates that killed off the MicroSD storage card. So check out Kies and see if you’ve got the upgrade, and be sure to let us know the results in the comments below.
Galaxy S Vibrant owners with Bell, Virgin Mobile, and SaskTel are now able to grab the Froyo update for their device. Unfortunately, it looks like the only way to do this is by using Samsung Kies, so if you were expecting an OTA it looks like you’re out of luck.
The process looks to be a little long, so if you haven’t downloaded Kies and are unsure how to use it, Samsung has provided a full set of instructions and a download link here (including pictures). Happy Froyoing everyone!
