Motorola unlock tool for RAZR HD, RAZR M and Atrix HD released

Yesterday, the bootloader was unlocked on some major Motorola phones by Dan Rosenberg; the RAZR (MAXX) HD, RAZR M, and the Atrix HD. Motorola devices are notoriously difficult to unlock, so that was a pretty big deal. Today, that unlock tool was released to users. As a warning, it does void your warranty, and the tool cannot relock the bootloader, only unlock it. Motorola also will probably fix the exploit used in a future software update, so if you want to unlock your device, it’s best to do it sooner rather than later.

Best Buy has announced exclusive availability of a special edition DROID RAZR M for Verizon today. Priced at $50 on contract, the “Platinum” DROID RAZR M features a prominent grey color, with blue accented buttons outlining the edge of the device. Other than the fresh coat of paint, the device remains identical to the same mid-range handset we’ve come to know and love. Motorola sends invites for Droid RAZR M soak test; Is a Jelly Bean update looming?

Looks like we’ve got some great news for you Droid RAZR M users! Motorola has sent out invites to their feedback community for a soak test for the RAZR M. This can only mean that an update is impending and should be expected out to the masses in due time.

Motorola DROID RAZR M, RAZR i, RAZR HD and Atrix HD all receive root method

As with any other Android device, root is eventually achieved. The Motorola DROID RAZR M, RAZR i, RAZR HD and Atrix HD have all received root thanks to XDA user djrbliss. The process that exploits root in these devices is called Motofail2Go and is a virtual one-click root process.

You’ll need a Windows PC, Motorola’s latest USB drivers and the program itself. If you’re brave and willing to give this a shot then head on over to the source link for instructions and more information regarding this rooting process.

Motorola shows off Droid RAZR MAXX HD in new commercial

Motorola has already made it clear that the Droid RAZR MAXX HD won’t be launching until closer to the holidays, but the company has gone ahead and released its first TV spot for its new handset. The manufacturer touts it as having an “edge-to-edge display”, which seems like a bit of a stretch considering the Droid RAZR M has much less bezel. There’s still no word on an exact date for availability, but our guess is that it will make its debut around Thanksgiving. Either way, you can watch the official video below.

Edge-to-edge screen to be revealed by Motorola next week?

As we reported a couple weeks ago, Motorola has an event planned for next week on September 5th in New York in conjunction with Verizon Wireless. We have surmised that both Motorola DROID RAZR HD and a Motorola DROID RAZR M devices will be released. Bloomberg is now reporting that a source familiar with plans for the event has indicated one of the devices to be unveiled will be a Motorola smartphone with virtually no bezel, effectively giving it an edge-to-edge screen. If true, this will make it unique in the smartphone market. Whatever the new device is, as Bloomberg notes, this will be the first high-profile Android device release for Motorola since being acquired by Google earlier this year.

Looking back through some photos that have leaked of the DROID RAZR HD, there is some similarity with the latest image above. Could the DROID RAZR HD or even the rumored DROID RAZR MAXX HD sport the bezel-less screen? Would such a feature be something you would be interested in?
