Sure we have seen some smartphones tout some impressive toucheless control features, but those type of devices come at a king’s ransom— so they may not be accessible to a wider range of customers. Fortunately Pantech quickly realized that the technology should be available to a wider range of customers and has introduced its brand-new Perception smartphone. The device is a typical mid-ranger which features Ice Cream Sandwich loaded up, a dual-core Snapdragon chip, 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display, an 8MP camera + 2MP FFC and 16 gigs of on-board storage. Sure those may be ho-hum to the masses— but the real ace in Pantech’s cards is the arrival of Motion Sense technology on the Perception. The technology allows users of the device to do things like wave their hands to answer calls or moving your finger up and down to scroll up and down through a list. Pretty awesome.
This smartphone is set for arrival on Verizon’s wireless network on April 25th, which should make customers of that network happy, but customers of other networks a wee bit sad. But if you are on Big Red’s network— the great thing about the Perception smartphone and its Motion Sense technology is the impressive price it will arrive at: $99 on-contract (after a $50 mail-in-rebate). Not too long ago Pantech unveiled their Discover for AT&T. It’s a pretty powerful little device with a low price point, which tends to win customers over pretty well. Now we’re getting a sneak peek at Verizon’s version of the device, named the Perception, which we can pretty safely assume will have the same or similar specs and pricing as the Discover, although it’s worth noting that the Discover has a 13 MP camera, and the FCC shots show an 8 MP shooter. Aside from that, the device looks slick as ever with what appears to be a brushed metal finish and a very thin profile. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we hear more about the availability of this device.

Pantech has unquestionably been raising its game as of late, launching quality budget handsets like the Burst and Discover on AT&T. Yet another new device has been leaked today, this time for Verizon. It seems as though Big Red is destined to receive the Pantech Perception at some point in the coming weeks, marking the first “real” budget handset from the Korean manufacturer to hit the nation’s largest carrier. Leaked specs for the device include a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor and a eye-soothing 1196 x 720 resolution display.

The Pantech Perception has been pictured with Verizon branding indicating the device should hid Bid Red sometime this year. Coupled with an HD display along with 4G LTE it could be a great low to mid tier smartphone option for buyers. The device will don Qualcomm’s dual core S4 processor, the same in US’s Galaxy S III, thus it certainly won’t be a slouch.
Considering its AT&T counterpart in the Discovery is $50 subsidized, I would expect the price point on the Perception to be somewhere in that area as well.
