ASUS has released an odd teaser video this morning, depicting what appears to be an alien mothership making its way to Barcelona, Spain in preparation for Mobile World Congress 2013. While no smartphones or tablets are directly identified in the video, ASUS says to join them on Feb. 25,” when Pad and Phone come together,” denoting the possibility of new Padfone hardware at next week’s electronics show. ASUS Padfone 2 specs possibly leaked by photo of packaging

Who among us doesn’t enjoy a supposed leaked photo of a yet-to-be-announced device, even if it’s just the box? Just yesterday, it was revealed that the Padfone 2 will be announced on October 16. Besides the release date possibly being announced, that announcement may not matter too much if this picture is what many believe it is. Granted, it could always be the work of a clever photo job. In fact, there seems to be conflicting info in the spec list vs. the icon regarding the display (Super IPS vs. SuperAMOLED). If the picture is real however, which was posted on a Chinese forum simply titled “Padfone 2 specs revealed,” then what we’re looking at may very well be the unveiling of the specs of the new Padfone. The specs begin with the model number “A68″ which makes sense for the Padfone 2 as the original was dubbed the “A66.” The rest reveals a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 13MP camera, 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super IPS+ display, LTE, and 2GB of RAM amongst other goodies. What do you think – real or faked? We’ll probably found out very soon.

AnTuTu benchmark database reveals Quad Core Asus Padfone 2

by Sean Stewart on

It wasn’t that long ago that we caught mention of the Asus Padfone 2 from a leaked slideshow. Now, instead of seeing a few bullet points on a slide, we can allegedly see benchmark results of the not-yet-announced Padfone 2. It was originally assumed that we’d see the successor to the original Padfone in late 2013. However, with these benchmark results, its release may be sooner than we think. The shot of the benchmark results reveal the Padfone 2 name, the device running on Android 4.0.4 (another key it may release sooner rather than later), and a quad core 1512 MHz processor. Of course with only a benchmark screen capture, the price and release information are not known. However, we’ll keep you updated on what appears to be a beast of a multifunctional device.

The update brings several bug fixes and optimizations in the power consumption and camera department.  Support for 64GB SD cards will also implemented along with a new Super Note function with handwriting recognition.

ASUS will be pushing the update via OTA, although you can also pull the update directly from the ASUS’ website. If you own a Padfone and wish to update it yourself, then head over to the source link!

Google Nexus Tablet Confirmed By Anonymous ASUS Representative; Transformer Pad Infinity Coming to AT&T

by Macky Evangelista on
tagged , , , , ,

We have all heard about Google’s official Nexus Tablet that is said to be made by ASUS for quite some time now. For the past couple of weeks the confirmation of the infamous tablet has gotten closer and closer with press image drafts and benchmarks and today we take another step forward to the reality of the Nexus Tablet. Android Authority has reported that an ASUS representative, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the 7-inch Nexus Tablet at COMPUTEX. The representative also informed them that we should expect it to be unveiled by the end of June. We had already assumed this because the end of June is when Google IO will be held, and assumptions were that the Nexus Tablet would be unveiled during the event. While this news itself is nothing fairly new if you’ve been following the Nexus Tablet for the past couple of months, it is still good to get confirmation from an ASUS representative themselves and that the tablet will be unveiled in just less than a month. The Nexus Tablet is slated to be in the $199-$250 range equipped with NVIDIA’s Kal-El Tegra 3 processor. The price range and the fact that it’s straight from Google with the ‘Nexus’ name will be the two huge selling points for this slate.

In other news, ASUS also confirmed to AA that they are working to bring the ASUS Padfone to American carriers although the informant mentioned only AT&T has expressed any interest. Other U.S. carriers are probably too hesitant due to the tethering option that the Padfone has (loss of revenue). AT&T is also said to pick up the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity (TF700) and should be available by the end of this month in both a WiFi only version and an LTE version.

This next month should be quite exciting in the Android world. By the end of June we should have the Nexus Tablet unveiled and possibly Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as well. Anyone else excited for what’s to come?

Check Out Asus PadFone’s Real World Battery Life

by Jack Holt on

Back at MWC this year Asus debuted its PadFone tablet/phone combination with much fanfare. In April pre-orders were available in Taiwan with hopes that the U.S. would soon be able to do the same. Well sadly as is with most technologies the device was delayed with the S4 processor shortage being the possible culprit as to why. Well in a “leaked” video on Asus’ YouTube that has now been taken down Asus went as far as to boast about the PadFone’s battery life. According to the video the phone itself will see 16 hours of use where the the tablet mode and laptop modes should see 63 and 102 hours respectively. According to the folks at engadget though, Asus said that this is in regards to 2G talk time.

Asus was awesome enough though in sharing some of the more realistic battery life figures they’ve found in a lab setting. When the device was set at half brightness it came up with the following results:

Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Shortage To Delay ASUS Padfone?

by Ed Caggiani on
tagged , , , , , ,

The ASUS Padfone, that weird phone/tablet hybrid device, was supposed to launch in Taiwan at the end of April, and in Italy sometime in May. But now, according to a tweet by ASUS Indonesia, it seems that the launch may be delayed due to a shortage of Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processors. An ASUS spokesperson told The Verge “I believe [the shortage is] affecting all of Qualcomm’s customers.

That’s not a direct admission of a delay from ASUS, but it’s as close as it can come. Basically, ASUS is saying that the Padfone uses the S4, and the S4 is running low on supply. Make your own conclusions. Let’s hope Qualcomm can get production ramped up soon!
