LG Optimus G Pro will receive the KitKat update in Q2 2014

LG_G_Pro_Android_4.4.2_Update

A screenshot of a direct message on Twitter between an LG Optimus G Pro owner and LG India surfaced on the internet yesterday. The G Pro owner, Prabhjit Singh Walia, had sent a message to the South Korean’s Indian Twitter account asking when the LG Optimus G Pro will receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update.

According to a screenshot of LG India’s reply, the device will be receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat update by the end of second quarter 2014, though we haven’t heard of an official statement from LG yet. If true, it means that we might see an Android 4.4 KitKat for the Optimus G Pro by the end of June 2014.

LG will skip the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update and push out the Android 4.4 KitKat update directly to a few devices. These include the LG Optimus F3, LG Optimus F6, LG G Pad 8.3, LG G Pro Lite, LG Optimus F7, LG Optimus L9 II, LG Optimus Vu II and the G2 will receive the KitKat update by march.

AT&T Optimus G Pro quick review: A fantastic phone at a fantastic price

AT&T_LG_Optimus_G_Pro_TA_Front

In a mobile world that has been dominated by Apple and Samsung, LG has been quietly making some noise. LG finally made a name for themselves last year with the Optimus G and the Nexus 4, but if you want to compete with the likes of Samsung, you better have something that competes with the Note as well. LG already tried this route with the Optimus Vu, which was a total flop. For whatever reason, they thought a 4:3 display would attract consumers, but all it did was detract them. After the success of the Optimus G, they won’t make that same mistake again. Using the “G” theme they designed a phone that has all the hardware and tools to go head to head with Samsung. Is it good enough? Hit the break to find out.

If you own the AT&T LG Optimus G Pro, then you will be happy to know the Value Pack upgrade is finally available to you. It’s already available via over-the-air and includes a ton of new features and enhancements such as:

New Tools:

  • Smart Video intelligently recognizes the position of a user’s eyes, automatically pausing the video when the user looks away and then restarting it once they resume active viewing.
  • Dual Camera, an extension of the Dual Recording feature, lets users simultaneously capture photos of the subject and the shooter using both the front and back cameras for a picture-in-picture composition, so both sides of an experience are snapped and saved.
  • Pause & Resume Recording allows user to pause video in record mode and then restart the recording to create one continuous video file.

LG releases series of videos promoting “Fabsharing” feature on Optimus G Pro

LG_Optimus_G_Pro

LG has released a series of pretty funny videos showing off some of the “Fabsharing” features on the new Optimus G Pro, including Dual Recording, Live Effects, and VuTalk.

Dual Recording allows users to record using both front and back cameras at the same time, with picture-in-picture capabilities. Live Effects adds special effects to pictures and videos, creating a pretty humorous result. VuTalk allows for interactive screen-sharing during phone calls, illustrated in the promotional video by a grandma and her grandson playing hangman on their phones with each other while in the middle of a phone call. Pretty cool stuff! It’s obvious that LG is catching on with Samsung’s ways here, knowing that the majority of consumers purchase based on features, not on hardware.

Check out the videos after the break.

Hands on with the AT&T Optimus G Pro smartphone

LG_Optimus_G_Pro_TalkAndroid_Main

Earlier today, AT&T and LG announced the Optimus G Pro smartphone, the next great flagship device to battle for true supremacy. So it’s only fitting that LG showcases its newest toy at its Share The Genius event here in New York City, where it is giving an opportunity for a handful of folks to test drive the newest device before it arrives in stores next week. With an incredibly thin profile, stunning 5.5-inch HD display, Snapdragon quad-core processor clocked at a whopping 1.7GHz and a customized version of Android 4.1.2— the Optimus G Pro certainly looks the part of a topnotch device. But alas, as we all know— it’s not about how the device looks— it’s all about how the device operates and feels during real-time usage. So hit the break to check out or hands-on and get a feel of the Optimus G Pro in action.

AT&T and LG make the Optimus G Pro official, pre-orders start May 3

AT&T_LG_Optimus_G_Pro

We already knew that tonight’s LG party was all about the Optimus G Pro for AT&T so they decided to just go ahead and make it official. The Optimus G Pro will finally land in the U.S. with AT&T on May 10. It will be priced at $199 and pre-orders start this Friday, May 3. This is the same phone that has already been available internationally and features a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display, a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600, 2 GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, microSD slot for expanded memory, 13MP rear camera, 2.1MP front facing camera, 3,140mAh battery, and IR blaster. Let’s not forget the Value Pack update as well.

One thing I will say is kudos to AT&T as they now offer the three best phones on the market, the Galaxy S 4, the HTC One, and now the Optimus G Pro. On the other hand, Verizon Wireless will only offer the Galaxy S 4, and that won’t be out until the end of May. Full presser and video after the break.

LG is poised to announce next week the availability of the LG Optimus G Pro as part of the AT&T product portfolio, so it is no surprise that an image has shown up purporting to be a render of the device. @evleaks, the frequent tipster of Android device images, posted a pic today showing the device with a small AT&T logo on the back of the device. On the front of the device, the home button appears to have an AT&T blue highlight surrounding the button. In just a few more days we should be able to verify how accurate the rendered image is.
