Earlier today, AT&T and LG announced the Optimus G Pro smartphone, the next great flagship device to battle for true supremacy. So it’s only fitting that LG showcases its newest toy at its Share The Genius event here in New York City, where it is giving an opportunity for a handful of folks to test drive the newest device before it arrives in stores next week. With an incredibly thin profile, stunning 5.5-inch HD display, Snapdragon quad-core processor clocked at a whopping 1.7GHz and a customized version of Android 4.1.2— the Optimus G Pro certainly looks the part of a topnotch device. But alas, as we all know— it’s not about how the device looks— it’s all about how the device operates and feels during real-time usage. AT&T and LG make the Optimus G Pro official, pre-orders start May 3

We already knew that tonight’s LG party was all about the Optimus G Pro for AT&T so they decided to just go ahead and make it official. The Optimus G Pro will finally land in the U.S. with AT&T on May 10. It will be priced at $199 and pre-orders start this Friday, May 3. This is the same phone that has already been available internationally and features a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display, a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600, 2 GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, microSD slot for expanded memory, 13MP rear camera, 2.1MP front facing camera, 3,140mAh battery, and IR blaster. Let’s not forget the Value Pack update as well.

One thing I will say is kudos to AT&T as they now offer the three best phones on the market, the Galaxy S 4, the HTC One, and now the Optimus G Pro. On the other hand, Verizon Wireless will only offer the Galaxy S 4, and that won’t be out until the end of May. Full presser and video after the break.

LG Optimus G Pro for AT&T render surfaces on Twitter

LG is poised to announce next week the availability of the LG Optimus G Pro as part of the AT&T product portfolio, so it is no surprise that an image has shown up purporting to be a render of the device. @evleaks, the frequent tipster of Android device images, posted a pic today showing the device with a small AT&T logo on the back of the device. On the front of the device, the home button appears to have an AT&T blue highlight surrounding the button. In just a few more days we should be able to verify how accurate the rendered image is.

With AT&T set to add the LG Optimus G Pro to their portfolio starting May 10th, LG is getting on the event bandwagon for their latest flagship device to hit the U.S. shores with a Share the Genius event on May 1st. The event will take place in New York City and is headlined by indie music group Atlas Genius. The LG Optimus G Pro will be entering the market up against the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 so any buzz they can generate to help show that they too are a player in the top end of the smartphone market will help.

The LG Optimus G Pro is an answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Note II, and offers rock solid specs at a similar price point. Starting April 12, the Optimus G Pro will receive a “Value Pack” upgrade which brings Smart Video, Dual Camera, and Pause & Resume. Smart Video utilizes eye-tracking technology and if a user is watching a video and looks away, the video will pause. Once the user looks back at the screen, the video will then start playing again. Dual Camera uses the front and rear-facing camera at the same time when taking photos. Pause & Resume is very similar to Vine functionality where you hold to record and release to stop recording, creating videos with very simple edits. AT&T picking up the LG Optimus G Pro, slated for a May release

We knew LG’s Optimus G Pro was eventually coming to the US, we just weren’t sure when. Well, the cat’s out of the bag, and sources indicate that AT&T will be picking up the G Pro on May 10th. That puts it right up against the HTC One and the Galaxy S 4, so LG is walking into some very stiff competition with that release date. However, it will be the 5.5 inch version, not the 5 inch version that was released in Japan, so this might attack more of the Note 2′s market instead of the One and S 4.

No word on any other carriers, but I’m sure we’ll hear something sooner or later.

LG confirms Optimus G Pro sales have already topped the 500,000 unit mark

Considering the Optimus G Pro has warranted a ton of praise from both the press as well as customers out there, it should come as no surprise that LG has officially hit a milestone with the device. The Korean manufacturer announced it has sold 10,000 on its initial February 21st launch. Oh and for good measure, LG confirmed that Optimus G Pro sales topped over the coveted 500,000 unit mark during the first month of the release. It looks like customers out in Korea really took a liking to the beefed up specs including the 5.5-inch display, quad-core Snapdragon chip, 2 gigs of RAM and full LTE capabilities.

Now all we need is an American variant to officially hit the States and we’ll be in business.

LG E980 clears the FCC, could be Optimus G Pro for AT&T

LG mentioned that the Optimus G Pro would be available in North America in the 2nd quarter of this year. It looks like we are one step closer to this promise being fulfilled as an LG phone with the model E980 stopped by the FCC for a little visit.  Considering the Optimus G is the E970, I think it’s a lock that AT&T will be bringing this beast to it’s network soon. As a reminder, this phone sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display along with a quad-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU. We will let you know more as soon as we hear it.

LG Optimus G Pro specs available, headed to North American markets

In advance of MWC 2013, LG has officially released the specifications for their new LG Optimus G Pro smartphone on their Korean site’s newsroom. LG had previously announced the availability of the device for the South Korean market and the specs are consistent with that model. LG is stepping up to a 5.5-inch display with the device, incorporating a curved glass design capable of displaying 400 ppi full 1080p HD. Running the device will be 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor mated with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. Besides a 3,140 mAh removable battery, the device will also accept up to a 64GB microSD card. For cameras LG has included a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 2.1MP front-facing camera that can record full HD video. » Read the rest

LG shows off Optimus G Pro curved glass design

LG is trying to ramp up excitement for their new phones before MWC, and they’re doing a pretty good job. This time they’re showing off the design of the Optimus G Pro, which takes some serious design cues from the Note 2, but not in a bad way. One thing you won’t see that’s in the other popular phablet is a curved glass design, which LG says creates a 2.5 effect on the screen. Aside from that, it’s got the same finish as the other more familiar phones in their lineup. It’s closely based around the Japanese version of the phone we’ve seen, down to the specs, but hopefully we’ll see this hit more markets than just South Korea. Be sure to keep an eye out for this at Mobile World Congress.
