HTC One X rumored to get Sense 5.0 in new incoming update, brings Zoe and Blinkfeed along for the ride

Just because the HTC One X is so last year doesn’t mean it’s not going to be treated to some welcome updates, possibly in the near-future. According famed developer LlabTooFeR, HTC is currently working on an extensive update that should not only bring Android 4.2.2, but will update the Sense UI software to version 5.0. Additionally, the new Sense UI update will bring the premium goodies that are Zoe and Blinkfeed as well, which brings enhanced camera capabilities and a brand-spanking new social feed to the device.

Of course everything needs to be confirmed by HTC above anything else, but here’s hoping we see something soon… very soon.

HTC expected to get Android 4.2.2 update in July… but no further updates after that

Is the HTC One X smartphone not going to get a taste of Key Lime Pie? It certainly appears to be the case as a mysterious tweet from an insider indicated that HTC would be providing the Android 4.2.2 update as its final update for the smartphone— not the Android 5.0 update that was expected by the masses.What’s even more baffling is there’s no reasoning for why the update wouldn’t hit the device either. Could it be a potential delay of the Android 5.0 launch by Google? What about memory limitations for Sense + Android 5.0? Perhaps the real likelihood is well, it might be too much work to try and stuff new software into increasingly “outdated technology”. It sucks, but that’s likely the real culprit… if it’s true that is.

Naturally we will need to wait for the official word from HTC before we can jump to any real speculation that is. On the flipside, at least reports are indicating the Android 4.2.2 + Sense 5 update will hit devices from July. A bit of a silver lining for One X owners we suppose.

Facebook announces ‘Facebook Home’ replacement launcher for Android [Video]

As expected, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the HTC First Facebook phone today, but he also introduced a complete home replacement for many popular Android phones (and eventually tablets). It’s called Facebook Home, and according to Zuckerberg, “It sets the tone for your whole experience.”

Although the new launcher will work with all the apps that are installed on your phone, it changes the focal point to people as opposed to apps. The Coverfeed allows you to scroll through updates with large photos. You will be able to quickly see all the comments and respond inline. You will also find a notification pane that includes SMS messages and other important posts.

HTC One X to receive Sense 5 and 4.2 over the summer

Naturally when a new device comes out, owners of the previous generation of the device are left wondering if they’ll ever see the new software features on their current phones. And, after seeing the cool stuff Sense 5 can do, I can imagine there were some envious One X owners after HTC took the wraps off the One.

Well, good news if you do own a One X. The latest leak from a trusted Twitter user, @LlabTooFeR, says that the international One X will be receiving Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 in one update as soon as June or July. Supposedly, other members of the family will get the same update, (One S, One X+, Butterfly) but no time frame was given for those devices. I imagine HTC is realizing that to play with the big boys, you have to keep some of your older devices updated, and this is a big first step in the right direction.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as soon as we hear anything else about these updates.

Sense 5 is coming to the HTC One X, One X+, One S, and Butterfly

With the announcement of Sense 5 last week, many HTC phone owners are wondering if their models will receive the upgrade. The question was asked on Facebook and HTC replied with the One X, One X+, One S, and Butterfly. The DROID DNA didn’t make the list, but I suspect that since it’s a Butterfly variant, it will also be one of the chosen ones.

As you know there are a lot of newer features in Sense 5, and some of them probably won’t make it to these other phones due to hardware limitations. One such feature is HTC TV. Since none of those devices have an IR blaster, there would be no reason to include it. The last question that needs to be answered is when? Unfortunately we don’t know, and I wouldn’t expect to see the updates before the summer, especially the carrier branded versions.

AT&T HTC One X+ Review: The best just got better

Last year when I reviewed the HTC One X, I said it was the best Android phone hands down. Of course that was a day before the unveiling of the Galaxy S III. Still by the time the year came to a close, I still picked it as the phone of the year, and it was the build quality that put it over the top for me. Late last year HTC released the One X+, which is essentially the same phone with a spec bump. It wasn’t meant for current One X owners to run out and buy one, but it was a needed release since Samsung and LG were releasing quad-core devices with LTE in the U.S. The world of smartphones is moving ever so rapidly, which means that flagship phones can’t last one year without some kind of mid-year spec bump. That’s exactly what the One X+ is, so hit the break to find out if HTC did enough to keep the momentum going.

Rogers HTC One X Jelly Bean update now available

Canadian carrier Rogers has a late Christmas present for HTC One X owners; the Android Jelly Bean update is rolling out over the air to devices starting today. The update, which checks in at just over 634 MB (definitely use WiFi for this one), should start notifying owners that it’s available for download. Start checking for updates and let us know if you get the upgrade.

HTC M7 smartphone to make appearance at CES 2013?

Amidst all their troubles, including plans to cut back on shipments and models, HTC has been generating a small amount of buzz around one of their devices. Leaked specifications for the new HTC M7 device point toward it becoming the new flagship device for HTC, on par with or surpassing the DROID DNA as a successor to the HTC One X. The question remains as to whether HTC will be able to keep moving forward with such a high end device.

According to one rumor, HTC is preparing to announce the M7 at CES 2013 next week. Twitterer @Football4PDA tweeted earlier today that inside information indicated this would be the case. Along with the CES 2013 rumor, @Football4PDA also mentions the device will have screen buttons instead of hardware buttons.

HTC Jelly Bean Update List Gets Leaked

Sure HTC may be hemorrhaging money at an alarming rate, but at least it’s continuing to make its customers happy by providing guidance on which of its popular devices will be getting the coveted Jelly Bean update. According to a leaked update list from notorious leaker Football4PDA, owners of the following devices will get the Jelly Bean update… at some point:

 

 

This is exciting news indeed— though I’m sure owners of the above devices are eager to know when they will get the extensive update. Hopefully HTC doesn’t wait until even newer pieces of software is out before unleashing the Jelly Bean update to the masses.

HTC One VX to be available on AT&T by December 7th

The HTC One VX was originally poised to arrive on AT&T alongside the HTC One X+ on November 16th. The problem is that only one of the devices made that scheduled launch date. And while the HTC One X+ is currently available both in carrier stores and online, the HTC One VX is nowhere to be found.

According to an AT&T spokesperson however, that’s set to change in just a few short weeks, confirming that the carrier  ”expects to be fully stocked in all channels by Dec. 7.” So, if you’re currently on the holdout for HTC’s budget handset, you shouldn’t have too much longer to wait.
