When There’s Smoke, There’s Fire: EXIF Data Supposedly Points Out A 10-Inch Nexus Tablet

All eyes may be on the upcoming Nexus 4 (or Optimus Nexus, whichever you prefer), but we haven’t forgotten about the fact that a possible 10-inch Samsung Nexus tablet is quietly being worked on. So while we have no specific details or nary an idea of what this special tablet will feature, we at least know that the possibility of it being a reality is very much true thanks to some leaked EXIF data that surfaced on the Picasa website. According to what was posted on the Picasa website, the image supposedly taken by a “Nexus 10″ has a resolution of 2560 x 1920, which lines up with earlier rumors suggesting the device will have a 10.1-inch display at a 2560 x 1600 resolution. The image that was posted clearly looks like it was intended to highlight the standard camera capabilities of this “Nexus 10″– so we see everything from the 2.7 Aperture & Exposure of 1/15 sec. One major item to note of this image is the Android build of “JVP12C”, an unspecified Jelly Bean (or higher) build— which may imply that this “Nexus 10″ may hold the keys to what should be the latest Android software.

Naturally we don’t want to make too much out of this, but then again— when there’s smoke, there’s always fire. Hopefully we’ll start seeing additional leaks and info of what should cutting-edge features in the upcoming tablet. Maybe just maybe, we’ll see everything we need to see on October 29th.

Google And Samsung Expected To Develop A 10-Inch Nexus Tablet

by Roy Alugbue on

While the Nexus 7 is a resounding success, speculation has surfaced that Google is currently partnering with Samsung for yet another Nexus device— this time a 10-inch tablet. According to NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim, this new Nexus tablet will measure in at exactly 10.1 inches and feature a display of 2,560×1,600 display with a PPI (pixels per inch) of about 299– which would trump even the Retina Display found on the iPad. Oh and unlike the the existing Nexus 7, this new 10.1-inch tablet will be positioned as a high-end tablet featuring all the bells and whistles poised to take a major bite out of the iPad’s market share.

Considering Samsung has an excellent track record with the development of past Nexus devices (see Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus smartphones), we can expect a solid offering from this collaboration with Google. Unfortunately, there are no additional details for now, but as soon as we dig up any additional info, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Specs of the Google Nexus Tablet leak ahead of Google I/O announcement

by Robert Nazarian on
tagged , , ,

There might be many things we are expecting or at least hoping for at this week’s Google I/O, but one thing we will be absolutely shocked if we hear nothing about is the upcoming Nexus Tablet. All the rumors have indicated that it’s made by ASUS, will include a Tegra 3, be 7-inches, and be on the cheap. Well Gizmodo Australia got a hold of some training material for the device and has confirmed the specs. There really isn’t anything surprising or earth shattering here. It’s expect to be available in Australia sometime in July so I think it’s safe to assume everywhere else will get it around the same time. As far as price goes, it’s supposed to be $199 for the 8GB version and $249 for the 16GB version. The only question left is will it sell like hotcakes? Don’t forget, our own Stacy Bruce will be there getting all the juicy details so stay tuned. Hit the break for the full specs.

Google, ASUS Set To Unveil The 7-Inch Nexus Tablet At Google I/O, Expected To Be Priced At $199

Well folks, it looks like we’re getting closer and closer to seeing Google’s Nexus tablet a reality. We were among the first to tell you that Google planned on introducing its tablet at Google I/O next week, but now we have some additional details adding to this excitement. According to DigiTimes, the Nexus tablet will drop in at 7-inches, feature a WiFi-only connection and will only feature a front-facing camera for a budget-friendly price of only $199. Software-wise, we won’t know what OS the device will come preloaded with (though speculation points directly at Jelly Bean)— but DigiTimes confirms the device will feature Google’s own Chrome Browser. While we already see plenty of signs that ASUS would have a hand in the Nexus tablet’s development, it is also believed that Quanta Computer will be playing a part in the manufacturing of the device.

It looks as if Google is full steam ahead too with bringing Nexus tablets to stores. DigiTimes adds:

“The 7-inch Nexus tablet PC already started shipping in June and is estimated to be available in the retail channel in July with the device’s total shipments expected to reach at least three million units in the second half of the year”.

Well folks, if DigiTimes is correct, it looks like we’ll be seeing something special very soon. We’ll find out soon enough as Google and Asustek Chairman Jonney Shih are slated to announce the tablet at Google I/O next week.

More evidence of the Google Nexus 7 tablet emerge from EXIF data

by Robert Nazarian on

I’m not sure we need anymore evidence of the upcoming Google Nexus tablet, but a photo showed up on Picasa with EXIF data suggesting it came from a Nexus 7. This isn’t the first time we heard the name “Nexus 7,” but we’re still wondering if it’s a codename or the actual name. The picture itself isn’t revealing. It’s of a ceiling and has a resolution of 1280 x 960 which suggests it came from the front-facing lens.

Press image drafts of the upcoming Google Nexus tablet dressed in white emerge

by Robert Nazarian on
tagged , , , ,

Well what do we have here? Our friends at Phone Arena just got a hold of some press image drafts of the upcoming Google Nexus tablet. We’re expecting this bad boy to be unveiled at Google I/O and our own Stacy Bruce just might be lucky enough to walk out with one.

As you can see in the pics, it has a white front and a two-toned back. There aren’t too many white Android tablets out there, so this might be a good move for Google in that it will stand out in this very crowded space. The fact that there is an earpiece slit is very strange. Not sure what to say about that.

It’s made by ASUS, will have a NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, and from the looks of it, will have a rear and front-facing cameras. If Google and ASUS can pull this off at $249 or lower, it will obviously be a screaming hot deal. Of course it’s expected to have Android 4.1, and some people are saying it’s Jelly Bean, but I don’t think it will actually be called Jelly Bean. I believe it will just be another version of Ice Cream Sandwich just like 3.1 was to Honeycomb. One more pic after the break.

Look what just showed up on Rightware’s Power Board benchmark site… it’s the much-rumored and highly-anticipated Google Nexus tablet. It’s showing up as the Google Asus Nexus 7 with a resolution of 768 x 1280 (that’s a portrait orientation, common for 7-inch tablets). It’s also sporting an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A9 CPU.

Our friends at AndroidPolice uncovered more information in the form of some raw data:

Tegra 3 Powered Nexus Tablet Built by ASUS to be Unveiled at Google I/O?

by Stacy Bruce on
tagged , , , , ,

There are many things to look forward to when the annual Google I/O rolls around and new Android hardware is one of them. According to a “trusted source” close to Techno Buffalo we have at least one piece of hardware we can look forward to at this this years conference and it may even go home with each attendee. TB is reporting that the previously rumored ASUS branded Nexus tablet will finally rear it’s head. Sure, nothing new here except for the fact that this tablet is suggested to be powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. How can this be you ask? Wasn’t the Nexus tablet supposed to be around the $200 price point? Yes it was, and it still can be. Don’t forget about Project Kai that we just heard about. That’s the NVIDA Tegra 3 chip designed to be reasonably priced while still providing the power we have come accustomed to when it comes to Tegra 3 performance. See, everything is starting to fall into place… sort of. Conflicting reports are also saying that Android 5.0 Jelly Bean may or may not come pre-loaded on the developer giveaway tablet but it kind of seems a bit early for that. Good thing June 27th is just a month away, we will be on scene to report the full scoop.

Google tablet scheduled to land next month, Could it be called the Nexus Prime?

by Robert Nazarian on
tagged , , ,

We heard a lot of talk about a Google (possibly) Nexus Tablet, but things cooled off. All talk seemed to point towards ASUS manufacturing it with a June release. Well DigiTimes is reporting that 600,000 tablets will be made available in June and ASUS continues to be the manufacturer of choice. Projected sales for 2012 seem to be 2 to 2.5 million units, which seems low if they are going after Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

We know there will be a Google tablet of some sort, but the real question is what’s the name? If you look at the latest Nexus phones, the naming scheme seems to go along with the manufacturer. The Nexus S was made by Samsung and was named after the Galaxy S. Last year the Galaxy Nexus was also made by Samsung and they used “Galaxy” instead of opting for the Nexus S II. In both cases the full name included something related to the manufacturer. Now this tablet is being made by ASUS and we all know they make the Transformer Prime. Granted that’s a 10.1-inch device and this is a 7-inch, but it seems to add up since the “Nexus Prime” name came up last year when we thought that was the name of the now Galaxy Nexus. It’s obvious ASUS and Google were working together back then, but at the time no one knew that ASUS was the chosen one for a tablet. They could opt for the Nexus Transformer as well, but I’m banking on Nexus Prime.
