Garmin’s Navigon Navigator App Gets Extensive Update

Garmin’s Navigon Navigator app has just received an extensive update bringing even more functionality for its users. Right off the bat, Garmin has brought the ability to share your location with others using its Glympse technology. This means that no matter where you might be, users will always be able to share their locations with friends and family via a text message or email with a location link to a tracking map included. In addition, the Navigon app will include even deeper Foursquare integration, which eventually learns your check-in behavior and even offers suggestions of places to visit and check into.

While the Navigon app has been revamped to include more features, Garmin is also getting into the holiday spirit by offering a price reduction of the app. Garmin will be offering the Navigon app for 25% off its normal price— so this means you can grab the app for $39.95, instead of $49.95. Not too bad of a deal, right?

NAVIGON announces ‘Next Generation’ of navigation apps for the fall

NAVIGON announced the next generation of smartphone navigation apps will be available this fall. The new update will feature the ability to download certain regions to their devices, and NAVIGON FreshMaps will offer quarterly map updates for a one-time fee for the lifetime of the product.

“Over the last two years, we’ve continuously added new features to our navigation apps, transforming them into the most feature-rich smartphone GPS apps available,” said Gerhard Mayr, NAVIGON vice-president of worldwide mobile phones and new markets. “For our new generation of apps, we went back to the drawing board to see how we could elevate smartphone navigation to the next level. Feedback from our users suggests that a better way to manage and update maps and a more intuitive user interface are top priorities.”

They have simplified the user interface by allowing multi-touch gestures to easily switch between pages with animated menus. Zagat’s ratings will be added as an in-app purchase, and a cockpit function will display real-time driving data which let users monitor driving behaviors.

Navigon MobileNavigator USA hits the Market, brings augmented reality

Navigon MobileNavigator USA has finally hit the Android market today and it’s about time. We first got a peek of the navigation app back in January when it was shown off at CES, so it took nearly 11 months before we got a chance to get our hands on it.

Aside from the standard text-to-speech and turn-by-turn directions, MobileNavigator brings a neat feature called Reality View Pro mode that shows realistic 3D views of the street signs and a new Reality Scanner mode which offers an augmented overlay with additional info at what you are looking at nearby. Pretty slick.

The app is available today and is on sale for $39 for the next 2 weeks. After that, the price climbs to $59. If you plan on picking it up, you might want to hop on wifi as the app contains full map data for the U.S. and will require 1.5GB of space.
