The Samsung Galaxy S III is coming to pretty much all Canadian carriers, including TELUS, Bell, Rogers, WIND, Mobilicity, SaskTel, Videotron and Virgin Mobile. The Canadian release date was announced as June 20th, but yesterday on Twitter, Samsung Canada let everyone know the date has slipped by a week to June 27th.
The folks at MobileSyrup received a more detailed statement:
“Due to unprecedented global demand for the highly anticipated Samsung GALAXY S III, with more than 9 million carrier pre-orders to date, the date of availability for purchase of this device in Canada, is now June 27th. In advance of the GALAXY S III availability date, most carriers and retailers are offering customers the chance to register on-line for updates, and some partners are offering their customers the option to pre-order the Galaxy S III. We expect any shortages to be short lived as we ramp up production to meet this unprecedented global demand.”
I guess it’s not a bad problem for Samsung to have.

Rogers and Telus already spilled the beans about the June 20th Canadian release date for the Samsung Galaxy S III, and now Samsung has confirmed this in a press release. Samsung also outlines all the specs of the Canadian variants as well as which carriers will be getting it. Here’s the breakdown:
SGH-i747 (LTE model): Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile, SaskTel, TELUS, and Rogers Wireless.
SGH-iT999 (HSPA+42 model): Videotron, Wind, and Mobilicity.
In the U.S., this could mean the i747 would come to AT&T and the iT999 to T-Mobile, but we’re just speculating. Spec-wise, these two models are very similar to the international versions with a couple of differences.
As we expected, the CPU is a dual-core Qualcomm S4 instead of the quad-core Exynos. The amount of RAM is doubled to a whopping 2GB for both Canadian versions. On the negative side, there will not be a 64GB version available, and the iT999 will only come with 16GB. Not the end of the world, but this may affect the buying decision for some.
Hit the break for the full press release.
Mobilicity, a relatively new contract-free Canadian carrier, has launched its Galaxy Nexus four days ahead of schedule. This is incredible news for Canadian Android fans who desperately wish for a contract-free Galaxy Nexus experience. It’s retailing at Mobilicity for $599, and for a limited time you can also receive a Samsung HM1100 Bluetooth headset.
As an added bonus, if you’re so lucky as to have a Valentine for this coming lovers holiday, Mobilicity is also holding a promotion February 6th through February 17th. If you want a free Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Mini with six months of unlimited service, you and your hubby should submit a video to their “Mobile Kiss Cam Contest” with the best kiss you can catch on video.
