Amazon Releases Teaser Promo Of New Kindle Fire Before Today’s Announcement

Looks like we won’t need to wait any longer for the new Kindle Fire since Amazon has “leaked” a teaser promo highlighting the newest addition to the Amazon family. Amazon subtly displays an obvious tablet, one with no sort of identification and no branding. Instead, Amazon highlights the potential a consumer can do on a simple tablet– reading shopping, viewing sports content, etc. The ad effectively highlights Amazon’s concern of making consumers’ lives just a little better.

Of course the teaser left many who saw it wanting much more. Fortunately we won’t need to wait too long as we’re just hours away from Amazon’s big announcement later today.

Amazon is expected to unveil the follow up to the Kindle Fire next week in New York City. It’s also possible they will announce both 7-inch and 10-inch versions. As far as leaked images go, things have been quiet, but The Verge just received one. We can’t be positive that this is a 7-inch or 10-inch version, but it does look like a 7-inch based on the scale of the keyboard.

The Verge also received another image, but was asked to not share it. According to them, it shows a streamlined user interface with less “chrome.”

Kindle Fire successor to be announced September 6th

by Colton Kaiser on

Amazon’s first attempt at an Android-based e-reader turned out to be a wild success, so it makes sense for the company to give it another try. Today, the online retailer sent out invitations for a press event on September 6th in Santa Monica, California. Details of the event are still unknown, though it is expected that Amazon will unveil the next iteration of Kindle Fire tablets.

Earlier this year, we reported that the company was preparing to release a 10.1-inch version of its Kindle Fire tablet to more closely compete with offerings from Apple and ASUS. In addition to the 10.1 version of the tablet, Amazon is expected to roll out an updated version of its popular 7-inch model. Although, without any official word, it appears we’ll just have to wait until September 6th to get the full low-down from Amazon.

Amazon Kindle Fire To Be Reduced To $169 After Kindle Fire 2 Launches?

by Ed Caggiani on
tagged , , ,

This is hardly a surprise, but DealNews is reporting that Amazon’s Kindle Fire will experience a price drop to $169 after the new Kindle Fire 2 launches later this year. Amazon has a history of keeping older kindles around, at lower price points, when newer ones are released. According to DealNews, the Kindle Fire 2 will slide into the $199 price point.

This tactic is similar to how Apple positions its older iPads and iPhones when new versions come out. The strategy allows one manufacturer to cover multiple price levels, increasing their potential audience.

Of course, Amazon is now forced to compete with Google’s popular Nexus 7 tablet, which is leaps and bounds ahead of the original Kindle Fire spec-wise but still costs just $199. Sales forecasts for the original Fire have already been cut due to the Nexus 7′s success. Reducing the original Fire to $169 and launching the Fire 2 at $199 would essentially allow Amazon to compete with the Nexus 7 on two fronts.

Looks like the era of low-cost and genuinely usable tablets is here, folks. This is the kind of competition that helps drive innovation. Even big bully and litigious Apple will be getting in the smaller tablet game with their rumored iPad Mini, but I doubt theirs will be under two bills.

Amazon Looking At Bigger And Better Things, Has Numerous Devices On The Way

As we wait… and wait… and wait for Amazon’s next big thing, Amazon makes it clear it’s looking at bigger and better things beyond that device in the near-future. According Demos Parneros, president of U.S. Retail for Staples Inc., Amazon will introduce up to five or six tablet SKUs (stock-keeping units). In addition, we’ll see devices of all types and sizes, such as a 10-inch model that has long been rumored. While there was no mention of this, it probably wouldn’t be too far fetched to see a long-awaited smartphone be among these devices that will be released by Amazon as well. To support that idea, it also looks like Amazon is employing the best and brightest to help develop and customize these new products. Reuters reports Amazon’s Lab126 research and design center in Silicon Valley has posted new job listings, which suggests Amazon is working on new mobile devices that will run on wireless carrier networks. To highlight this point even further, seven job postings by Lab126 in recent months sought hardware and software engineers who have experience with cellular products including cell phones and smart phones.

Ladies and gents, this is probably as big of a sign as it gets to show Amazon is really looking to stamp its mark as a major consumer brand among everyday folks.

Hot off the success of its Kindle Fire and Google’s recently-announced Nexus 7 tablet, Amazon is rumored to begin picking up steam for its not-so-secret Kindle Fire 2 tablet. According to the China Times, Amazon plans on shipping the first batch of Kindle Fire 2 tablets on August 7th in order to place itself in direct competition with the Nexus 7, while also ordering 2 million units from Chinese manufacturer Quanta. Additional rumors include the Kindle Fire 2 will feature a metal frame with otherwise plastic body, with the display made by LG and touch panels by TPK. Sounds like Amazon is gearing up to make the new tablet as good or better as the competition out there.

Ladies and gents— get ready for the next round of the (mini) tablet wars!
