Yes folks, this post isn’t a flashback to a year ago. The HTC Thunderbolt is actually receiving the much elusive ICS update for the device. This update upgrades the Thunderbolt to Android 4.0.4 with Sense 3.6. Head to Settings > About phone > Software update to see if your update is ready.

Considering ICS came out almost a year and a half ago, I’d like to say it’s better late than never… But this is as late as you can get. Anyone still using this as their primary device?

Thanks, Josh!

While Google Now has only been available for Jelly Bean devices (officially), that hasn’t stopped people from finding numerous ways to get it onto their Ice Cream Sandwich devices. Google Now has been available for Ice Cream Sandwich devices for some time now thanks to the folks at XDA. Back then you just needed to have a rooted device and being able to sideload an .apk file and changing some things in your build.prop.

Now there’s a newer method that utilizes an application called GNow Handlebars. Your ICS device still has to be rooted, and all you have to do is install the application and follow the simple steps:

DROID Bionic Soak Test Imminent, may finally be Ice Cream Sandwich

by Sean Stewart on
tagged , , , ,

In what seems like ages, there’s finally good news for owners of the DROID Bionic. Motorola has purportedly invited Bionic owners to test out a new software update. It’s been reported that we would see Ice Cream Sandwich in the 4th quarter of this year for the Bionic, save for a few leaks. So naturally, we can’t see this being anything other than Ice Cream Sandwich, at long last. As a reminder, a soak test is usually the last phase of testing software. If responses are mostly positive, then it’ll be good to go to the masses soon thereafter. What do you say, Bionic owners? I know, when does Jelly Bean arrive?

Acer Iconia Tab A100, A200 and A500 all won’t be receiving offcial Jelly Bean upgrades

Looks like we have some bad news for Iconia A100, Acer A200 and Acer A500 owners. An Acer spokesperson has just confirmed that a Jelly Bean update will not becoming to either of these 3 devices. While the A100 and A500 are already over a year old, the A200 was only just launched earlier this year, thus it’s quite disappointing that these devices won’t officially see anything past Ice Cream Sandwich.

Will this announcement by Acer make you guys who own these devices to root them?

A new ROM labeled as I535VRALHD has leaked for Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S III. This new ROM includes a new baseband radio that is supposed to improve 4G signal strength and includes several other improvements such as battery life. Sadly, the ROM is still ICS 4.0.4 and not a Jelly Bean build, but any improvement is still good nonetheless. If you’re interested in installing this onto your device then follow the instructions in the source link provided.

Also, let us know your experience with the new version and if you’ve noticed any noticeable improvements!

Swiftkey announced today an update to their popular keyboard app for Android devices. For users who like to dictate instead of type, Swiftkey has enabled use of the Google voice typing tool that is available in Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean. For those into themes, Swiftkey has introduced two new ones – Sky (a blue theme) and Fuschia (a pink theme). They have also added two new languages – Malay and Urdu – to bring the number of available languages up to 44.

Users who have been experiencing problems with Swiftkey, including those with Samsung Galaxy S III devices, running Jelly Bean, or who frequently use Chrome will benefit from numerous bug fixes. The new version, Swiftkey 3.0.1, is available from Google Play, Amazon Appstore, and AndroidPIT. Hit the source link for more information on all of the bug fixes and a video on how to change themes.

Starting August 14th, the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus will have an optional upgrade to Android 4.0.5 Ice Cream Sandwich. I say optional because the update will be through Samsung Kies and not via an OTA update. The update will bring the software to T869UVLG7 can only be completed by tethering the tablet to the computer via USB and using Samsung Kies to upload the new software to the tablet.

Head over to the source link for further instructions once the update becomes available!

by Jeff Causey on
tagged , , , ,

Owner’s of an HTC Rezound smartphone on the Verizon network have been patiently waiting for an update to their devices that would enable global roaming. Based on reports that came in over the weekend, it looks like their patience may finally be paid off. Users have reported a 103MB update for the HTC Rezound started rolling out to their devices. This comes a couple weeks after Verizon pushed out the ICS update for the devices.

The update keeps the Android version at 4.0.3, but increments the software up to 4.0.3.605.1. Global roaming functionality appears to be active after the update. It is not clear what else may have changed as Verizon has not released any official information.

Let us know if you have received the update on your HTC Rezound and if you have noticed any other changes.

Motorola RAZR XT910 Android 4.0 ICS update roll-out begins today

by Macky Evangelista on

It certainly is better to be late than never, and that’s exactly what the international Motorola RAZR (XT910) can say considering the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the device has finally arrived. Through various sources, the update should be rolling out today and if you haven’t checked already, go ahead into settings to see if the update is available.

Apparently, the hold up to the update is due to T-Mobile as they refused to sign off on the update because they wanted to put their own “customizations” to the ROM (ala the mySense Espresso). While that’s very disappointing to hear, let’s just be happy that it has finally arrived.

If you own an international RAZR and received the update, we would love to know about it in the comments section!
