Android 4.0.4 Factory Images Released For Select GSM Nexus Devices

by Ed Caggiani on

So what do you do if you’ve totally screwed up your system software on your GSM Nexus device? You need to flash a factory image to get back to stock, and as luck would have it, Google has released the official 4.0.4 (build IMM76D) factory images for the international GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus and the European and T-Mobile unlocked Nexus S. Flashing these files will leave your phones as if they were brand new and completely updated.

Flashing a factory image requires that you are not shy around a command line and fastboot, so it’s not for the faint of heart. If you’re brave and own one of these Nexus devices, download the images at the source link below.

Gingerbread 2.3.5 Fastboot 6.11.744 Files Released for the Verizon DROID RAZR

by Jack Holt on
tagged , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Yesterday we brought you the story about how the folks at Droidrzr.com brought us the bootstrap that allowed for booting into ClockWorkMod Recovery on the DROID RAZR. While this is completely awesome in itself, we didn’t have any fastboot files should we mess up a ROM or MOD. That is, until today; daywalker04 over at XDA was able to get and release the 6.11.744 fastboot files should we actually mess up. These files will return you back to stock Gingerbread 2.3.5 with the ability to download the OTA update bringing you to the current 6.11.748.

For those with slow internet or non-premium XDA memberships, you can download the files in two parts (or as one here if you have fast internet), and put them back together with this. Afterwards you can flash these files in RSD Lite 5.6 (see the link below). This safety net helps should you soft brick your RAZR and has been tested by members of both XDA and Droidrzr.com with positive results.

EK06/EK04 Radios and Bootloader leak for Verizon Galaxy Nexus

by Jim Farmer on
tagged , , , , , ,

Seems like Verizon’s 4G network may have succumbed to the cold weather today as people nationwide are reporting 4G outages. That being said, if you are a Galaxy Nexus owner, you may feel as if your signal wasn’t stellar enough already. Verizon acknowledged this issue and promised a software update to help remedy the low bars we’ve been seeing. Today we have for you leaked radios and an updated bootloader that should be part of the update to which they are referring.

I flashed the radios and bootloader this morning and don’t have any issues to report, however, the signal gain I’ve noticed is modest to say the least. I’m typically seeing one bar more than previously, while my household Samsung Charge reports 1 to 2 more bars on average. This leads me to believe that Verizon’s network issues today aren’t hindering my Nexus’s performance, in other words, it probably won’t get better when the network recovers. That’s not to say that my call quality and signal have necessarily been bad. I’ve dropped one call since owning the device, and I’ve had full signal showing in certain areas around town. I can’t help but wonder if maybe ICS reports bars differently, because aside from the visual representation, I’ve been able to make calls as usual. Anyways, if you want to try these out, just follow the instructions below.

Motorola Xoom Gets Unofficial Taste of Android 4.0.3 [Courtesy of XDA]

by Jack Holt on
tagged , , , , , , ,

Quickly after the release of Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 and the push to AOSP, developers over at XDA have created an almost fully functional ROM for both versions of the Xoom. A few issues for both the WiFi and 3G/4G versions are apparent and they are as follows:

What is working: (That I can tell so far)
- Wi-Fi
- Browser
- All the basics

What is not working:
-3G/4G – baseband issue?
-Camera*
-HDMI*
*Need binaries from Moto

There also seems to be an issue with some green coloring on the screen at times, but it appears that we are pretty close to seeing a fully functional Android 4.0.3 ROM for the Xoom.

So if you have a rooted Xoom and want to give this a try, you can hit the break below to download the files and get the instructions on how to do this. Those who want to try this I wish you good luck and let us know how it goes, although if you have 3G/4G I would hold off until those work. A big thanks to razorbladex401, xxspark89xx and XDA for developing these. Note: You need to use fastboot for the 3G/4G files.

Droid Bionic gets Fastboot Recovery files for broken software and bricked devices

by Stacy Bruce on
tagged , , ,

Have you already turned your shiny new Bionic into a paperweight that rules all? First of all… bummer dude. Second… you might just be in luck!

Motorola’s FXZ Bionic recovery file was just released allowing the phone to return to factory condition. If done properly, the Fastboot XML zip package will return your phone back to stock i.e. bloatware, BLUR, Android 2.3.4 and stock boot image. If you are in a bootloop this should repair your system.

We have included the tentative instructions after the break. And just as a friendly caveat, Talk Android is not responsible for any damage to software and/or hardware and we list these instructions for reference purposes only. Proceed at your own risk!

CyanogenMod 6.1 does quickboot

by Dustin Karnes on
tagged , , , , , , , , , ,

You’ve probably heard recently that the quickboot feature on the HTC Desire HD has been ported, along with a full ROM, to a couple other devices. It looks like this feature caught the eye of the CyanogenMod team, as a tweet came out this morning from @cyanogen, which simply stated:

Yeah, CM6 “does” too :)

Included in the tweet was a link to a YouTube video showing off the fastboot option on a CM6.1 device. For those who don’t know, the quickboot option works by actually hibernating the device instead of doing a complete shutdown. Video below. Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!
