Twitter to acquire TweetDeck for $40-$50 million

It was reported back in February that UberMedia was going to buy TweetDeck for approximately $25 million. Apparently that deal fell apart because Twitter jumped in and made an unsolicited counter offer.

Now we are hearing that Twitter will acquire TweetDeck for $40-$50 million and that it will be announced in a few days.

This move is believed to be a defensive strategy because UberMedia already has bought UberTwitter, EchoFon and others. Twitter could not allow UberMedia to purchase TweetDeck because it would give them too much leverage.
