Run Up to 5 ROMs at Once with Boot Manager

by Harold Williams on
tagged , , , , , ,

Now this is what I’ve been waiting for! For all you ROM flashers out there who want to try out a bunch of different ROMs all at once, Android now has a multi ROM boot application available to do just that. The app is called Boot Manager and will allow you to have 5 different ROMs on your device all at once and switch between them with just a simple reboot. This is great for both the flashaholics and developers alike to have multiple builds or different ROM flavors to choose from at will. You’ll have to be rooted of course and it’s highly recommended you read the manual here before you get started. Boot Manager will cost you a slim $2.99, but this should be well worth it for you flashaholics out there. Grab it from our handy apps database here, by the source link, or by the QR code below. Be sure though that your device is supported before you attempt to use this app.

Nook Color Gets A Taste Of Sweet Honeycomb

by Joe Sirianni on
tagged , , , , , ,

We’ve said this time and time again, is there anything the folks over at XDA can’t do?  The latest and greatest news to burst from the XDA community seems, comes from a developer who goes by the name “deeper-blue“.  Roughly two days after Google releases their Honeycomb SDK, blue and company manage to port it over to the ever popular, Nook Color.  On the initial port, blue has stated that touch input does not work, nor is there hardware acceleration.  He then added, later, that the touch input was working and he would continue working on the acceleration issues over the weekend.   » Read the rest

We love a good Apple story (*as plainly seen here, cough cough*) as much as the next person, and this is no exception. You may have already heard that Android had been ported to the iPhone, but now it appears that you can install our favorite little Android on the iPhone 2G and 3G without a computer. The following models are supported:

  • iPhone 2G with iOS 3.1.2, 3.1.3
  • iPhone 3G with iOS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.1

And, your device has to be jailbroken with any of the following:

  • PwnageTool
  • RedSn0w
  • BlackRa1n

As long as your device meets these requirements, you can hit the break to find out how to install Android on your iPhone, and steal a small part of Steve Jobs’ soul.

CyanogenMod 6.1 does quickboot

by Dustin Karnes on
tagged , , , , , , , , , ,

You’ve probably heard recently that the quickboot feature on the HTC Desire HD has been ported, along with a full ROM, to a couple other devices. It looks like this feature caught the eye of the CyanogenMod team, as a tweet came out this morning from @cyanogen, which simply stated:

Yeah, CM6 “does” too :)

Included in the tweet was a link to a YouTube video showing off the fastboot option on a CM6.1 device. For those who don’t know, the quickboot option works by actually hibernating the device instead of doing a complete shutdown. Video below. Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!

HTC Desire HD ROM ported to DROID Incredible, Desire, now EVO 4G

by Dustin Karnes on
tagged , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Perhaps you’ve seen the amazing boot time on the HTC Desire HD, which ranges anywhere from 3-5 seconds. A couple days ago, it was announced that the Droid Incredible and Desire had gotten a port of this snappy new ROM, which was showing off the same cool boot time as the original ROM. Now, however, it looks like these two devices aren’t the only ones seeing some ROM porting love, as the HTC EVO 4G has joined in the party.

Keep in mind that these ports should be considered half-baked, as there are issues with camera, wifi, 4G and more. But, if you’re willing to sacrifice those aspects for a speedy ROM, then back up your current configuration, and give it a go! Links to the xda threads are found below:

Download & use Droid 2 boot animation (works on Nexus One)

by Chris Moor on
tagged , , , , , , ,

Well yesterday we showed you how to get the Droid 2 live wallpaper on your phone. So today we’ll show you how you can get the Droid 2 boot-up animation on your original Droid or Droid Incredible. (or Nexus One in my case :D )

You’re going to need the Android SDK for this:

  1. Download the bootanimation.zip
  2. Put the bootanimation.zip into your android sdk/tools folder
  3. Press SHIFT+right click inside the folder (make sure nothing is selected)
  4. Choose “Open command window here”
  5. Type the following: adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local followed with adb reboot

After that your phone should reboot and have the Droid 2 boot up animation!

Note: This should work on Droid 1s and Droid Incredibles also. As you can see, it also worked on my Nexus one. If you’re feeling brave you can try it on your device, although we at TalkAndroid aren’t responsible if you bork your phone.

Note: If your phone is already rooted, then it’s as simple as placing the bootanimation.zip file using Root Explorer into /data/local and then reboot your phone.

Silent Boot for Android does what you think

by Chris Moor on
tagged , , , ,

If you’re sick of your phone making all sorts of noise on startup and shutdown (Vibrant owners can relate to this) then this app is for you. Just like its name suggests, Silent Boot simply mutes your device on shutdowns and bootups so you don’t have to hear DROOOOOOOOOOID or whatever other noises your phone manufacturer deems necessary. Simple and effective, just how apps should be… Unless you have a Galaxy S device because it doesn’t work on my Vibrant or Captivate. Well it doesn’t work completely. It muted my startup sounds, but not my shutdown.

Rate and download: Silent Boot Then let us know what phone you have and if it works.

Android Boot Animation Makes Your phone Look Like a Computer BIOS

by Chris Moor on
tagged , , , , , , ,

Everyone likes modifying their phone, if you have root access that is. From themes to skins to custom apps there is something for everyone. Another popular mod for Android phones is changing the boot animation. Instead of having what the manufacturer puts for the start up you can have anything you like, provided you or someone makes it :)

One neat boot animation that I have come across makes your phone look like a computer going through the BIOS boot steps on your Android Phone. If you are wanting to spice up your phone and have root and recovery access then I suggest you give this a try. It will make a great conversation starter for someone looking over your shoulder.
