JK Shin says Samsung won’t reach a settlement with Apple

We recently covered HTC’s licensing agreement with Apple to end their patent dispute and even speculated that it may become a blueprint for other OEMs to reach a settlement with Apple. Samsung Mobile Boss JK Shin would like to take the time to shoot down that rumor before it gets too much weight behind it. Shin told reporters ”it may be true that HTC may have agreed to pay 300 billion won ($276 million) to Apple, but we don’t intend to (negotiate) at all.” Not exactly a warm response, but we’ve already seen that Samsung is willing to play hardball with Apple, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Samsung and Apple have been locked in legal battles all over the world in the past year, and judging from these comments, I think that’s going to continue, unfortunately. I guess Samsung sees itself as big enough and with enough marketshare and cash to keep doing the legal dance with Apple. Not great for consumers, but at least Samsung has enough faith in their products not to back down.
