Replace your rear view mirror with this Android version that includes a 5-inch LCD display

Android_4.0_Rear_View_Mirror_01

Well here’s an interesting item for the gadget freak. This rear view mirror is running Android and has a 5-inch display along with a camera for video recording. It looks pretty slick, but there are a couple of issues. First, it only connects via Wi-Fi, so that would mean that it would have to tether to your phone while on the go. Next, and probably not a big deal, is that it’s running Android 4.0 along with a custom UI called CubiDroid. I say not a big deal, and if the Play Store is included, it won’t be. The problem is that It’s not clear if it’s included. They do mention an app store with over 700,000 apps, so I can only assume it is, but you know how that goes. It’s also mentioned that it comes with navigation software, but it doesn’t mention Google Maps.

The 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display has a resolution of 800 x 480, and it has a 1,2 GHz single-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD slot for up to an additional 64GB of storage, FM transmitter, a camera that records video at 720p, and a 650mAh battery. The battery probably won’t last too long, but they do include a car charger. Last but not, least there is an optional Bluetooth headset ($15). The rear view mirror is priced at $226 at Pentagadget or $250 on eBay. More pics after the break.

New NFC-Enabled Bluetooth Gaming Keyboard for Android Announced by Mad Catz

 MadCatzStrikeKeyboard-2 (1)-1Crpd

It appears that Mad Catz, the manufacturer of quite a number of not-so-cheap gaming companions like mice, controllers, games and even apparel, have just announced they’ve heard the vast cries for a more Android centric gaming keyboard. That’s right, the company is introducing their latest product, the S.T.R.I.K.E. The keyboard is an NFC-enabled device with bluetooth capabilities solely focused on Android gaming. Remember the M.O.J.O. console from E3? Yeah, that’s them. The team is dubbing this as “GameSmart” and will be showing off their implementation of micro P.U.L.S.E. scissor keys which provide precision actuation and tactile responses.

In addition, there’s an optical finger navigational mouse sensor with dedicated hardware buttons for a better gaming experience on Android. Furthermore, the company is clearly pushing the aesthetics department a bit with their futuristic Bill & Ted excellent design. Overall, we think they look pretty innovative. The company is offering the option of three different colors for now. You’ve got the choice of gloss red, black or white.  Check out the rest of the images below as well as the presser and don’t forget to let us know what you think in the comments below.

Samsung may be forcing consumers to only use official accessories with their devices

by Jared Peters on

Samsung_Developer_Conference

Samsung may be planning on forcing consumers to only use officially licensed Samsung products with their Samsung devices in the future, according to a recent rumor. Things like batteries, chargers, and likely S-View cases would need to be authorized with an ID chip that only Samsung would manufacture, completely cutting out most of the third-party market for those accessories. The bright side of that situation would be that we would hear less about people’s batteries exploding because they used a knock-off battery or USB cable. The extreme downside is that the price for Samsung accessories is already extremely high ($60 for a flip case with a plastic screen in it, seriously?) and lack of much third-party competition would keep those prices high.

Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

I’ve never been much of an accessories guy, but some are all in for getting the latest and greatest gear to supplement their devices. Samsung recently released a list of the official accessories they’ll be offering for the Galaxy Note 3 including the S View Cover and Mini Purse, which were already announced. Now we’re getting to see some new additions such as the S Charger Cover, S Charger Kit, and the Desktop dock.

Prices are sure to be a bit high, but that’s expected from OEM-branded accessories. If you’re looking to spend less, look for some unofficial accessories from third-party brands. Availability and other information is not yet available. Check the source for pictures.

Incase

Motorola has teamed up with a number of manufacturers including Griffin, Incase and Power Support to produce accessories for the highly customizable Moto X. Customers can choose from a range of cases, docks, and screen protectors which can all be found on Motorola’s website.

Incase has made two different cases available— $29.95 for a basic plastic Snap Case, and $34.95 for a Pro Shell version which has a rubberized frame for improved grip and durability. Now you ask, “Why would I want to put a case on my Moto X if it’s just going to block out my customized colors?” Well the Incase cases are clear, and have different colored frames that you can choose from. You can also get an anti-glare or regular screen protector, as well as a shock-absorbing film set.

Moto is also offering two docks, one of which is built for the car, while the other is built for your desk. The Navigation dock goes for $39.95, has a suction cup for your windshield, and your Moto X will automatically enter Car Mode when it’s inserted into the dock. The power dock goes for the same price and doesn’t really have any specific use other than making your phone look nice as if it’s on display, and charge your phone as well.

You can order some of these accessories now while some items are listed as “coming soon.” Head on over to Moto’s store in the source link to check them out yourself.

O2 launching unique “Talk to the Hand” gloves, Bluetooth enabled gloves for phone calls

by Jared Peters on

o2 phone gloves

If you like odd phone accessories, we’ve got something that you’re really going to enjoy. UK carrier O2 is launching a new line of Talk to the Hand gloves, which basically let you talk to your hand. A collaboration between O2 and artist Sean Miles, these gloves are essentially Bluetooth headsets built into a glove for your smartphone with the ability to answer calls and talk on the phone built right in. Sure, you’re going to look really, really weird, but it’s a cool concept.

The coolest part about the gloves is that they’re made from old recycled phones. The entire project was really just a way to push recycling into the spotlight and prove that old electronics can be recycled for some pretty neat new uses. So don’t trash those old phones just because you upgrade to something newer and better; they’ve still got some life left in them outside of your desk drawer or a landfill.
