It was just last week that LG and T-Mobile the unique LG DoublePlay, a phone which features a secondary display in the center of its qwerty keypad. Since then the above screenshot has leaked, suggesting a release on November 2nd. Behind that 3.5″ screen lives a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, as well as some other nice features including a 5MP camera with LED flash, a 720p HD video recorder, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The secondary screen is 2″. I’m not into qwerty keypads myself, but I know plenty of people are. I would still suggest trying this one out in a store to get a feel for those keys. They seem awfully cramped to me. If, however, you’re ready to pull the trigger, it looks as if pre-orders may begin soon. No word on price, but secondary screen aside, the specs suggest a price of $150 if not a bit more.
Today Verizon officially announced the release of the Pantech Breakout as September 22nd, just as our leak suggested last week. This mid range Gingerbread divce will run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, packing inside a 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 5MP rear camera / VGA front facing cam, and a 4″ WVGA display. Swype Keyboard and an 8GB SD card will also be preinstalled. The real kicker here is that the Breakout can be had for a mere $99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate; in a way, cheaper than our originally reported price of $149.99. An affordable Android with Gingerbread and LTE will surely turn some heads.
Right on the heels of discovering the LG Optimus Black and LG Marquee are one and the same, the first press shots of the Marquee have arrived. Everything looks to have gone unchanged on the interior. You’re looking at a mid-range device toting a 1GHz, single-core OMAP 3630, WVGA resolution, 512MB RAM, and a five-megapixel camera. LG does however promise that the Marquee will have one of the brightest screens available. The exterior has changed a bit from the flat black of the global version to a grey pinstripe design on the battery cover.
While nothing is yet set in stone, the Marquee is aiming to be available October 2nd on US Cellular, Alltel, and Virgin. Concerning that new design on the back, I must say its not really working for me. How about you all? Let us know in the comments.
The Droid Pro may have never made it to the UK, but its successor, the Droid Pro+ certainly will. Note, the Pro+ is not related to the recently announced Motorola Fire. Whereas the Fire has a 2.1″ screen, the Pro+ features a 3.1″ Gorilla Glass screen. In addition to that tough screen you’ll also get Gingerbread 2.3, a 5MP camera, a 1GHz processor, a 1600mAh battery and of course added security for business.
Full press release after the break
We reported on the new Motorola Defy+ earlier this month. The Defy+ looks to be pretty similar to the original Defy in construction but with some enhancements inside; namely a 1GHz processor and Gingerbread 2.3. The news here is that the Defy+ looks to be coming to O2 Germany in early September. If the above image from MobiFlip.de is to be believed, The Defy+ will look very similar to the original Defy. If you’re unfamiliar with Motorola’s Defy line of phones, they have the unique quality of being dust-proof and water resistant. We’ll let you know if we hear anymore.
Softbank, the mobile carrier in Japan surprised us yesterday with the announcement of a Yahoo phone running Google’s Android OS; yeah, strange. Things just get weirder. Today the Japanese carrier brings us the Hello Kitty branded Aquos. For this special Hello Kitty edition, owners will have the privilege to enjoy Kitty themed menus, screens, icons, mail, calculator, alarm clock, and more. Although the phone is heavily branded with Hello Kitty, there is a Snoopy theme as well. While it may be cute and glamorous, don’t be fooled. The Aquos is a beast. Aside from being the world’s first Android flip phone, you’ll find that the Aquos has

We knew that ViewSonic was going to be making a run at being the first 7inch tablet to ship with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and now at Computex 2011 in Taipei, we have some real images of the ViewPad 7x tablet.
The specs are pretty much the same as what we had heard about a couple weeks back, featuring the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, Android 3.0.1 Honeycomb, and 1024×600 display resolution. After having a look at the device below, it looks like it may fair better than ViewSonics’ earlier Android tablet devices, which is what they need to be taken seriously anyway, and shake that ‘cheap’ image away. Have a look and let us know what you think!

I’m pretty convinced that if Android were to be integrated with your toilet bowl, as it may very well be one day, then XDA would still hack it, and hack it well. So, it’s no surprise to us that they have recently assisted in overclocking the NOOKcolor to almost 1GHz. That’s right, this little eReader is trying to tussle with the big boys by stepping up and maintaining that it can fill the shoes of other main stream tablets in its class, like the Galaxy Tab.
And of course, this is brought to you by none other than those crazy members at XDA. XDA member Geniusdog254 is the developer we have to thank for the improvement. The flashable overclock kernel goes by the name “She’s A Screamer” and can be found at XDA here. If you have successfully performed the mod, leave us a comment below and lets us know what kind of speeds you’re getting on your Nook.
