We have heard about Verizon adding Sony’s Xperia Z2 to its lineup for quite some time. The device has even appeared in an image posted by Sony. Even after so much time going by since the device’s launch worldwide, it is going to still make its way to Verizon.. with a twist. According to @evleaks, a Xperia Z2 with LTE-Advanced support has to be certified and tested before arriving. The model number is D6503, codename “Sony Sirius Viv,” and is set to arrive in the middle of the next quarter.

We have read rumors that Verizon was considering adding the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet to its portfolio of tablet devices available for consumers. That rumor picked up some new steam today thanks to a leaked image posted by Twitter tipster @evleaks. The image is a front and back view of the Xperia Z2 Tablet showing Verizon branding laid down right in the middle of the back of the device. Of course, we still have no idea of when this may happen, but the existence of a pre-release image could be an indication that the wait may not be too much longer.

Some new rumors have surfaced regarding the Sony Xperia Z3 from Twitter tipster @DooMLoRD_XDA. The latest bits of news appear to confirm some earlier reports, contradict some, and add in some new bits of information. According to the latest information, the Xperia Z3 will be released in September. That is consistent with statements made by Sony earlier this year indicating they thought flagship devices need to be released more often than once a year. Sony’s Kurozumi Yoshiro also said at MWC 2014 that Sony was going to go in a new design direction which @DooMLoRD_XDA seems to confirm by indicating the Xperia Z3 will have a new design with slim bezels and will be only 7 mm thick. » Read the rest

Sony has been unveiling a number of new Xperia models, and their latest was unveiled today – the Sony Xperia T3. This new device shares a number of internal features with the T2 Ultra, but on the outside is quite different.

The T3 has been hailed by Sony as the worlds thinnest 5.5-inch smartphone, coming in at just 7mm thin. For comparison, this is 1mm thinner than the new Samsung Galaxy S5. Unfortunately, the internal components aren’t as impressive. The Xperia T3 features a quad core 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, though that is expandable. The screen is 1,280 x 720 pixels and the device ships with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Normally it is Samsung saying it has “the next big thing.” This time, it is Sony using the phrase. And it looks like they are using the phrase quite literally. On Twitter, the company tweeted the image above while saying “Shh… do you want to know a secret? Stay tuned for the next big thing this season.” The image does show a rather large device. What could it be? The successor to the Xperia Z Ultra. A massive Sony device, that is the key.

We will keep an eye out for what this could be and let you know of anything else.

Samsung, Sony still trail Pebble in the ‘smart wearable bands’ category

Pebble is still leading the way when it comes to ‘smart wearable bands’ (or smartwatches). Research firm Canalys found that, as of the first quarter of 2014, Pebble chimed in with 35% market share while Samsung and Sony followed with 29% and 23%, respectively. As we all know, Pebble has its self-titled smartwatch and Samsung has the Gear line. Sony, on the other hand, quietly maintains its Smartwatch 2. The final 13% is left for others to fight for. These numbers are bound to change with LG and Motorola prepping an entry into the smartwatch game.

Fitness wearables, though, is heavily secured by Fitbit and its 50% market share in that field. That is another field seeing an increasing amount of competition. LG has launched a fitness tracker and Samsung has been doing so with the Gear Fit. Fitbit may have something up its sleeve to combat everyone else, but we will have to just wait and see.

When a carrier like Verizon decides to expand its device selection, everyone wins. Today, we hear that Big Red will be adding the new Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. When? We do not know. There is a very good chance, though, that it arrives alongside the Xperia Z2. Both Sony devices have been said to be heading that way for quite a few months.

If both Sony devices landed on Verizon, would you be interested in either one?

xperia d2403 benchmark

A GFX benchmark for a new Sony device has shown up in the wild. The device has a model number of D2403 and looks like it’ll be a pretty solid mid-range offering in Sony’s Xperia lineup. We’re seeing a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel rear camera, and a 4.4 inch qHD screen. Best of all, it looks like the phone will have 16 GB of internal storage, which is a rarity for budget devices.

This one won’t knock off Sony’s high end flagships, but for people looking to save a few bucks, keep an eye out for this one to become official.
