Congratulations on your purchase of the Google Nexus One. The process of setting up your IMAP and POP3 email accounts takes only a few moments and is a fairly simple process. There are two distinct mail applications included with the Nexus One. The first is the Gmail application and the other is the Email application.
Here is what you need to do to get your POP3 or IMAP email account up and running. The process is identical for both types of accounts, the only difference is which type of server you indicate for incoming email messages:
- Open the app menu. If you are not familiar, you will click the up arrow at the bottom of your phone’s home screen to launch the menu.
- Locate the Email application and tab on the envelope icon to launch the app.
- Enter your username and password into the fields presented and click next.
- Select POP3 or IMAP to answer the question “What Type of Account is This?”
- The next screen will prompt you again for your username and password, in addition to the POP3 mail server name. If you do not know this, you can ask your email provider for the information. However, most of the time it will be pop3.yourdomain.com imap.yourdomain.com, or something similar. You will also need to know the security type of the server. For example, if the server requires SSL encryption, etc. When you set this field, you will be taken automatically to the next step.
- Here, you will set up the outgoing (SMTP) mail server information. Again, if you don’t know this you can ask your account provider. You will also need to indicate type of security and whether signing in to the server is required before sending mail. In most cases, this will be required for your protection. Click Next to continue.
- Select how often you would like the Nexus One to check for new email. Also, indicate whether you want new mail notifications. Click Next to continue.
- The final step is to name your email account, to differentiate from your other accounts, and to enter your name as it should appear for outgoing email.
