Great news for Transformer Prime owners, as I woke up to an OTA update notification this morning! The new update is currently without a changelog, but from my experience and others on XDA, the device receives a new kernel (2.6.39.4) and updated versions of Wi-Fi (6.1.1.18) and Bluetooth (9.26). Folks are reporting a solid improvement, with random reboots, screen flickering, and  app crashing being a thing of the past. I have been lucky and haven’t experienced the random reboot/lock-up issue so I cannot confirm the fix. As for better app stability and screen flashes, I can honestly say I have noticed an improvement over the past hour of use.  Also, Wi-Fi is noticeably better with a slight increase in download and upload speeds. I have yet to experiment with Bluetooth.

This new update WILL BREAK ROOT so for those of you who are rooted and want to remain that way, I suggest running Voodoo rootkeeper before installing the update. You can find the Voodoo app in the Android Market.

The OTA update will bring your Transformer Prime up to version 9.4.2.13, and should be waiting for U.S. residents right now. People outside of the U.S. are reporting that the update hasn’t shown up yet so this is probably going to roll out in stages. If you haven’t seen the notification yet, you can try and force the update by going to Settings -> About Tablet -> System Firmware Update. There you should be able to download the goods. BaconReader has been updated to software version 1.25 and features some performance improvements and scrollable widgets for Honeycomb – ICS devices. If you own an Infuse 4G, you’ll be disappointed to hear that Samsung and AT&T have put the upcoming update to Gingerbread on hold. It seems that there’s an issue that targets a small number of users and they’re currently working on a fix. Surely the teams at Samsung and AT&T will be able to get this update around to Infuse 4G users sooner rather than later.

One of the best Android apps just got better. The Google Voice app has just gotten updated to version 0.4.2.44 brings some minor tweaks, a complete UI overhaul for Honeycomb & Ice Cream Sandwich devices and wait for it— the ability to now queue outgoing text messages. That means if one message fails to send at first it will be sent once you regain data connectivity. Sweet deal. Be sure to grab the updated app at the Market link below or by scanning that QR code.

Verizon has officially announced the 5.9.902 update for the Motorola DROID Bionic.  There have been rumors for a few weeks on just what Verizon had up its sleeve for the Motorola handset.  There is some good stuff packed into this update, including more stability.  The black screen lockups, camera lockups, idle resets and multimedia dock lockups should be a thing of the past.  The update will add Amazon MP3 and the VCAST App Store.  Also on the list of improvements are data, HDMI and Bluetooth connectivity.  The battery life should also be enhanced.  Unfortunately, this update won’t be bringing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the Bionic.   We’ll let you know here at Talk Android when that update happens.

The update is 57.6MB in size, and is available if you’re part of the Motorola Feedback Network and have registered your DROID.  If not, you should see the update go OTA in the next few weeks.

Well folks it looks like the Atrix 4G soak test we previously told you about is finally about to commence. Motorola has indicated the following heads up on the imminent update:

“Tomorrow after 12 Central/10 Pacific, you will receive a pop-up message on your phone that will mark the beginning of  the software pre-release test.”

Of course we speculate it’s likely the 4.5.141 software update bringing Gingerbread 2.3.5 and a few other enhancements. But part of me wants to reaaaaaaaaaally hope and believe it’s a surprise sweeter treat. Stay tuned with Talk Android for any further updates on the rollout of this mysterious update for Atrix 4G soak test participants.

Just days after learning about the unofficially leaked build of Android 4.0.4 for the Galaxy Nexus, French mobile site SFR has outed the existence of Android 4.0.5 and claims that the GNex and Nexus S should be seeing it rather soon. SFR also made mention about which devices would get an ICS update, and when. According to the chart, the 4.0.5 update will arrive OTA to the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S in March, while the Galaxy SII and the HTC Sensation will finally hit 4.0.

As far as the 4.0.5 update goes, I wouldn’t expect any drastic changes to the OS. Based on the numbers, you can expect a more fine-tuned ICS experience and probably a few minor bug fixes and software tweaks, nothing too major. Now the question is, “is this chart reliable?” Tell you your thoughts below.

Motorola has yet another soak test on its way out, this time for the DROID Bionic smartphone. It is perhaps the mysterious 5.9.902 update we heard about previously? It’s highly unlikely this update is the anticipated Ice Cream Sandwich update you owners are yearning for, as the DROID RAZR/RAZR MAXX would likely be the first MOTO phones to see the ICS update, so it’s probably the 5.9.902 update. Word on the street the mysterious update is finally headed out to the beta testers as early as tonight. A user over at Android Central received an OTA notification on his Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and managed to pull the file and make it available for download. Apparently the update contains Android 4.0.4 IMM30B.

This seems to be a limited release, most likely for internal testing, so if you decide to flash this, don’t be surprised if you see some weirdness. Keep in mind that this is only for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and will only install on a completely stock unit.

No word yet on what this update fixes or changes, so if you are brave enough and fit the requirements above, download the file here and let us know what you find!

Verizon is rolling out a new software update for the rugged Casio G’zOne Commando that brings free Push to Talk capabilities.  The update (C771M100) will also include:

• Security improvements
• An update to Gingerbread R8 for Google Mobile Services
• A replacement to the V CAST Video app
• Improvements to email deleting
• Text notifications have been added
• Improved password input in Lotus Traveler
• A fix to the screen locking issue after a call is made with Bluetooth
• Email and text message signatures have been added

For those of you who can’t wait to turn your Commando into a walkie-talkie, be sure to log in to your Verizon account and add the Push to Talk feature code.  Once you’ve done that, open the Push to Talk app and select “OK”.
