That's what money.cnn.com think.
T-Mobile's G1 is listed as 1 out of 9 top tech flops by an article published on CNN's money website.

Google's hotly anticipated push into operating systems for mobile phones was a media sensation, but HTC's version of its Android-powered device is falling short of the hype. Critics say the "Google phone," which went on sale Oct. 22, is a little clunky with design flaws like no earphone jack and an oddly jutting chin. Close, but no iPhone killer.

Other flops include Blu-Ray, Spore and Vista.
 or or ?

i dont know how you can call it a flop. if it didnt sell that well ok but as far as i know its selling well. i know lots of people who are just waiting for there contracts to be up so they can get one.

It's a shame that the G1 handset is causing such a poor reflection on the actual Android platform, but i guess we kinda knew that would always be the case.
For us guys the main draw was the OS, i wouldn't have bought the G1 had it shipped with Winmo or any other OS - i wanted it cos it came with Android.
The hardware was just a nice addition, i didnt really i just wanted to get my hands on the platform.
For that reason i dont see how you can label it a flop, or really compare it to other handset launches.

A FLOP!?! i think not.... most people are waiting for the conracts to be done away with concidering using wifi is free and not $35 a month. I myself could not wait so i paid $460 at the t-mobile store and bought one without the contract. Other than that,
CNN knows nothing and don't rely on what they say, cause they are wrong about alot of things

What gets iPhone users off leaves me cold. I'm in this for the tech, not the shinies. What with other phones was and will be modding and hacking is just advanced configuration under Android.
Plus, as a Linux user, I need a physical keyboard. Additionally, I hope to have Cisco VPN access one day. And playing ogg files is just common sense.
I'm not saying these facts make HTC G1 less of a flop if you must call it that. I'm just saying that for me it will always be better than the iPhone regardless.

Well, I have a G1 and it's frecking awesome. I don't care what CNN says. This phone is cool and full of tricks. I can see how having a special plug is a pain, but not for all the existing t-mobile users - because all my old chargers and ear jacks fit, I didn't have to buy anything new. They do sell the head jack adapter for $3.

Probably other motives involved, take stuff magazine UK, this month they included a one page review on the g1, thats it, phone and apps on one page. Front cover of magazine "The complete guide to ipod and iphone".
