"cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information, your server is not responding"
Hi, I was advised by my ISP to use their details to receive incoming email (pop) and to use my mobile phone provider's details for outgoing email (smtp).
E.g., Incoming: mail.velocitynet.com.au
You will need to use your username and password.
Outgoing: mail.bigpond.com
There's no need to change any of the settings other than unticking the tick box.

I've got the same problem on my Desire. I can send but not receive emails on my Uni email account. I set it up using instructions from IT support, and the step by step set up works fine but it refuses to receive any emails.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm going nuts trying to make it work!!
Cheers,
Nick

I found if you have it set up that your mobile is the outgoing server and you have wifi enabled it will not send as it prioritizes wifi as the outgoing service. If I turn wifi off then it sends fine.

I've just got the htc desire on T mobile, one of the main things I need is email access due to me running my own business and practically being on the road all the time.
I've to set up both my email addresses, one hotmail one a pop3 address which is hosted by streamline.
I've entered the correct email address and password, protocol as pop, security type SSL (tried all other options too without success)
"cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information, your server is not responding"
I get the same issue when I try to enter hotmail information, correct details again.
My other phone, n96, plus my laptop, pc etc can access emails using the same details so as such i'm curious as to whether there is something im unfamilliar with in respect to android? or whether there is an issue with the phone? or whether i am being plain stupid.
if any advice could be given i would appreciate it
many thanks
Simon

The keys as I understand it is (for POP to sync with Outlook) on 3:
Outgoing is smtp.three.net.au (in Aus)
Makes sure you DESELECT 'login required'
OUtlook settings to be (advanced) to 'leave a copy of msg on server'
