Hey, I've been following the blog and had something I felt was postworthy. I just got off the phone with T-Mobile support who told me that if I preorder the G1 (which involves switching to the G1 data plan) I will lose my sidekick's data services until my new phone arrives. I'm afraid to test it out on my own... has anyone tested this? I'd be very upset if I had no data service for a month because I want to make sure I get one of these at launch.

It does sound strange that they would kill off your data plan until October 22nd. Maybe they just meant from the time they ship?

I'm not sure buddy, try calling back for clarification you might get a more helpful support employee.

I pre-ordered yesterday and my sidekick data plan is still active.

They will not change your data plan until the device ships.

I don't know if this is the same thing you are talking about, but I currently have a family plan with unlimited family texting added. According to Tmobile customer service, I will keep the unlimited texting even though I'm buying the cheaper $25 data plan with 400 texts.

I didn't think they were screwing me at all. My unlimited family text plan will apply to me. I won't have to buy the unlimted text plan specifically for the G1. That should save me $10

You might try asking to see if you can keep your $5 unlimited text plan and just pay for the $25 data plan. Then you'd effectively be getting unlimited texting for $30 which is $5 cheaper than the $35 data plan with unlimited text messages they're selling for the G1.

It's worth a shot.
