Just got this new phone. I'm trying to decide whether to get Sprint or T-Mobile.

Are the ads about Sprint having a faster data network really true?

From what I read, their coverage of the city is about the same.

don't understand your question... if you "just got this new phone", then it is a particular model phone (which it would be helpful to know what it is).

Sprint and Tmobile cannot use the same kind of phones. Sprint phones MUST BE Sprint-branded, and are CDMA. Tmobile can use any GSM phone with the 1900Mhz band, although its data is either EDGE or 3G on a funky band (1700Mhz).

Yes, Sprint data is generally much better than Tmobile, though Tmo is improving (deploying 3G). And Sprint's coverage is also generally much better than Tmo, and Sprint also roams on Verizon.

But let's start with EXACTLY what kind of phone you "just got"...

Ok, well that pretty much lock you in...
Sprint is out since it is CDMA.
AT&T is possible but: 1) you'll have to get the G1/Dream unlocked first (usually Tmo unlocks their phones after 3mos), 2) if you try AT&T, you'll only get EDGE, not 3G/UMTS data, since Tmo uses a different band for their 3G in the US (1700Mhz).

you have very limited options cause of TMO's orphaned frequencies. Sprint destroys tmo in 3g and overall service quality.

I frequently get 2Mbps on a 1.5 hero on Sprint in downtown areas using the FCC mobile broadband test app. THAT IS FAST. Now we just need a phone with a processor that can utilize all of that and can render pages quickly.... I guess that is what the EVO 4G will do, AND it will have a 3Mbps - 10Mbps connection. I can not wait!!!
