I had the same problem ever since I bought the phone and finally found the fix for this problem.
Even HTC and T-mobile could not figure out this easy fix.
I assume everybody with the G1 bought a bigger SD card or at one point or another formated their disc. The problem is that you need to make sure that the format is done in FAT32.
I just did this and the camera is finally working for me.
I hope this will help everybody.

How do I choose whether things save to SD card or phone? Do pics automatically save to card and if so is there away to force them to save to the phone? I only ask because i'm getting all these weird error messages about the sd card and so i want to re-format it without losing all my stuff.

Okay, so I am feeling real stupid right now. I was at the store and asked the guy at the T-mobil kiosk about a new sd card so he reccomended the 4gb. I bought it and asked him do I just remove the old one and replace it with this one? He said yes, then after I removed it he said well you might want to leave the old one in until you are sure you have everything saved. Of course at this point I had already removed it and then put it back in, now I am not getting my email from my gmail account. What do I need to do and did I damage it by removing the card and putting it back in? At what point can I replace the old card with the 4gb card? I am so confused.......and old I guess

I just replaced my sd card with a 16GB card. I have an iPod Touch with 16GB and wanted as much storage as possible. Do you know how to mount your phone? Connect it to your computer and look at the phone screen. Pull down the notification screen and there will be something about connecting to your computer. Click on this and Mount your phone. Now you should see your phone sd card and all its folders. Now, to compare your original sd card and your new sd card insert your original sd card in your computer too. You will need an adapter to do this because the card is so small. You should have gotten one with your new sd card. Open it and you can compare the two cards. Be careful to copy them exactly as your original card. Here's another thing. Do you have an sd card that is compatible with your phone? Check on your phone documentation and see what kind of card you need and then make sure the type of card you buy is for cell phone use! I am old and I figured out most of this by reading droid forums. I've even added my own customized ringtones and was able to copy these on to my new droid. I use Mobil17 to make clips of my music into ringtones. I've used this website for years and have always had good luck with it no matter what type of phone I've used. I also don't get a lot of email from them. Good Luck.
