Usb connection and desktop version of websites

I was told that I just need to plug my Moment into my computer with the included usb cable and it would automatically install and assign a drive letter. I have tried this on a laptop and a desktop and have not had any luck. When I plug it in it comes up as charging, but does not create any icons on the computer. It has the 2Gb sd card in the phone.

Also I wanted to set the browser to only open desktop versions of web pages.

Any help is appreciated.

I tried plugging included usb cable in and rebooting my phone. I got a message about a problem installing hardware and it may not work properly. I checked device manager and it lists SAMSUNG_Android and says device drivers not installed. I am using 32 bit XP SP3.

WOW! 1 year later and I get a reply. Thanks esalinas for being the only to try and help. I had forgotten that I even posted this. Since then I have managed to figure out both issues. I have also rooted my phone and added custom ROMs and recovery.
For anyone else who might come across this and need help, I think the usb cord I was using was only good for charging the phone. I switched to the cable that came with the phone and the computer recognized it right away. At the time I first posted the driver was harder to come by, but now you can just run a search for it and find several places to download from.
I also downloaded Skyfire Browser, went into settings, and set it to display all pages as the desktop version. It has worked great all yeas long.
