I have one. Have had it for a month. I like it so far. I came over from Windows Mobile so was used to a lot of the windows functionality, specially with calendars and sync to outlook. In order to get some of that same functionality, I had to download a lot of free apps. My biggest complaint is in the calendar functionality and that's just an Android thing and not a Moment thing. Also, my GPS was very weak and it turned out that the first batch of phones had weak GPS so I just swapped my 1 month phone for a newer one and GPS works great.

I just got my Moment yesterday I so far I really like. I came from Blackberry so it's a completely different animal. My frustration is the battery life. It eats the battery. i downloaded Advanced Task Killer and it will close apps but the Moment opens them right back up. Any suggestions?

There are a couple of things you need to know about the battery:

A) She is an honest battery as opposed to those that die immediately after they go below 50%. Once it gets down to 15% or even 5% you probably have an hour or two of web surfing or call time on the thing.

B) Battery consumption on the phone is actually very low when you are using it. The key is making sure that the phone goes to sleep when you hit the hang up button:

- This means turning off GPS when you aren't using an app that needs it (there are lots of apps and widgets that make this easy)
- Using WiFi only when you are on a network (searching and trying to log into networks eats a lot of battery) - this is usually not an issue for me because the 3G coverage is good by me. When I am home or somewhere with open wifi, i just put it on.
- VERY important, you want to get the spare parts app and see how your % of time running vs. % of time screen on is - they should be 1/2 a ppt apart, but when you first get the phone its set up to have all these widgets running that dont let the phone sleep and make the phone keep running even when you don't realize.
- The spare parts app also lets you set the phone to sleep when you press the hang up button.

After making these changes, I get 30-40 hrs of my phone off each charge (rarely am below 50% when I go to bed and set my phone to charge again), and I've never rooted or drained my phone or anything.

So let me get this straight. By installing this app it will turn off GPS and WiFi connections when I hit the End button?

Almost....

The Spare Parts app (free on Android Market) allows you to:

- Check your battery history to see how it is being used (how much time is the phone running vs. when you are actually using it) - this is an important check to make sure that your battery isnt being eaten up by lingering programs/processes when you really mean for it to be OFF.

- By clicking on 'End Button Behavior' you can select what your phone does when you press the hang up button. I think the default turns your screen off, but what you want (if you want to conserve battery) is to have it put the phone to sleep.

The Quick Settings app (also free on Android Market) is the easiest I've seen for turning the GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi on an off quickly.

Oh - and beware of batter meter apps and widgets - they are often set up to work around sleep on the phone and actually drain the battery! Atleast, this is what I learned when I installed Spare Parts and found my phone was running 30% of the time, but the screen was only on 5% of the time. After removing the batter meter widget, my phone runs like 3% of my time, with my screen on 2% of the time...and naturally lasts like 10X longer than it was before.....

I recieved the Samsung Moment about a month ago and hed the issue with the battery draining within the first 5 hours of the day. I found out if you let the battery run down completely and charge it on your computer, it's a very slow charge. After it's fully charged, power down the phone and when you turn it back on it resets your battery meter. After I did this my phone will last approx 10 hours with limited use of GPS and WiFi but it last all day with heavy phone usage and text messaging. I hope that helps you with your battery issues.
