Google Apps gmail setup

Want to access my google apps gmail acct (not my personal gmail account) via the gmail app on the homescreen rather than through the browser (faster access). I was told to do a hard reset. Did that and logged in giving my google apps user name i.e. xyz@xyz.co.nz and password. I then get a message that I cant log in because my google apps account does not have Google Talk associated with it. Google Apps does not have Google Talk available. Have I screwed something up? Or am I missing something

Log in to google apps on your browser with a username than can manage the domain and then go to "Manage this domain"

Under the "service settings" section you can enable or disable google talk.

I already had this active when I first setup my phone so I didn't have any issues, but this should fix it based on that error message.
