its a black and white square , like some sorty of bar code square or something...
it looks like something you'd scan in with some sort of scanner, like an updated square version of a bar code.

however, why would i want to scan it into my phone, why would i need that bar code [qr code]? if i scan can i then download, locate it, etc...?

since the magic / g1 / hero(?) can't send files / contacts through bluetooth, i use "share by QR code" app to make a quick graphic so another HTC can scan it and have all my contact info w/o having to manually type it all in
also, qr codes can store around 255 characters in a postage stamp sized graphic, so huge URLs and things can be quickly scanned and opened
apparently QR codes are big in japan
and it's just plain fun
google image search for "qr code" and start scanning!
