Dialaphone have written up an interesting rundown of what many are prediciting/expecting from their mobile devices in the year 2010.

I kinda imagines we'd be all driving round in flying cars in 2010, but i guess i'll settle for hologram phones

  1. 3D Holograms on Handsets
  2. Open Source Handsets
  3. Big Push By LG
  4. Touchscreens To Be The Norm
  5. GPS As a Standard Feature
  6. Mobile TV Will Finally Really Take Off
  7. Additional Changes By 2010

I'd settle for being able to make phone calls on my dirty french maid while she is cooking me waffles

Doctor can you please report to the Holodeck?...and I thought my Tricorder was boss.
J/K I like how the hologram in the picture is a female and there are only guys in the room ha ha! Seriously though, I think holograms would be awesome but I wouldn't expect them on US phones any time in the near future, especially since we cant even get much in the realm of video calling these days.

Its true that we will not get it anytime soon, or near future, or distant future, or any kind of future! I'm sure that the japanese already have this in their OLD phones! And about the video calling, it still amazes me that companies can release phones without even a damn video recorder *cough*g1*cough*

With the economy, I think these kinds of advanced features will be put on hold. Here are my predicitioins:

1) PRICE WARS!!!! Crappy economy + increased competition = lower monthly bills

-focus on upgrading networks for upcoming increase in smartphones
-improved battery life
-tethering
-less focus on fancy features, i.e. video calling, holograms, etc.
-iPhone will still dominate despite Palm Pre, Android, etc.
-dark horse prediction... iPhone on other carriers

I think the next few years is going to be BIG for smart phones. Even with the economy being slow. Most companies have next years product already being made. all be it on less of a scale. But R+d is the main area where they wont be watching the pennies so much!

Apple i think might loose some of their dominance, but not much. Someone else will rise up and kick apple in the nuts. Maybe Htc but i wouldnt be surprised if Sony woke up. PsPhone anyone???

Once the battery and Oled screens are figured out, hold on cause its going to go fast!!!
