Hi all,

I've had my Desire for a couple of weeks now and have got a few small niggles that I thought I'd put on here to see if it was just me or if anyone had any comments.

You know when you have an email or text message waiting for you there is a little green ball that appears on the 'Mail' or 'Message' icon with a number in it indicating the number of items for your attention? Well I often find that the 'Messages' little green ball doesn't go away even after I have read all the new messages.

Hotmail doesn't work, but it didn't work on my Hero either. I did send HTC a message about this and they replied saying they would send an OTA update that would sort it out, but the number of the software revision of my phone was already the version they said they would send. Oh well.

Sometimes when an email (POP3 account) is picked up on the phone it gets deleted from the server even though that option is specifically turned off - this can be properly annoying as I prefer to manage my email from my pc. (I think the Hero might have done this too)

I've found a website that crashes the internet browser - this is a first, don't think I've ever managed that before. I tried to look at www.jaguar.com, cue a black screen then being dumped to the desktop. Ok, that website is groaning with active content, but I was surprised it just killed the browser.

There is no icon to turn on/off the mobile network anymore.

The icons for Bluetooth and WiFi don't turn them on and off like they did on the Hero, they just take you to the settings page - rather annoying.

I use my mobile as a broadband modem for my laptop, being on T-Mobile it is not unusual for the data connection to drop out, on the Hero you could tell at a glance if this was the case as there was an icon in the notification bar (a pair of horizontal arrows), this has gone on the Desire, so it makes working out why things have fallen over a bit trickier.

I think it speaks volumes for this phone that this is the worst I can come up with and let's face it, you really couldn't call any of these anything more than a minor niggle. Does anyone know if the Desire has the same problem with dropping text messages that the G2/Hero did?

Cheers!

Hi,

Even I am having issues with Desire. I was looking to buy a new mobile and was keen to buy an Android phone. The options I finalised were Milestone and Desire. I was looking for forums where I can find feedbacks about Desire. I couldn't find much since the Desire was new. Finally I went for Desire after seeing some very good ratings in many sites. But this is a poor quality mobile. The main issue I had was with the voice quality. It is poor, both ear piece and speaker phone. I usually attend calls on speaker phone. The phone squeaks when put on to speaker phone. Battery is not great, but not bad for a touch phone, with good use lasts for 1 day. All other features are good, I have seen some crashes, but I have no major complaints on crashes. But the phone fails to perform as a basic phone. To sum it up, the phone is good as a pda, not as a mobile.

That's unfortunate, I have no complaints about its performance as a phone, on mine the voice and speakerphone quality is superb, the only crash I have encountered is the one I mentioned above with the Jaguar website killing the browser.

Hi Vormulac.

The jag website kills my browser as well!! Not sure what thats about. Might be that the web site is totally flash based and the desires browser uses flash lite and cant handle all of the flash info?

The little green ball for messages is sometimes sluggish for me but i find if i go back in and open the message again it disappears.

Cant help with the pop3/hotmail cause i dont use them.

The icons you need are on the phone. Just they are a little funny to find. First find space on one of the home screens. Press the + button or long press on the screen which ever way you prefer. Select ''WIDGETS'' go down to ''SETTINGS'' as you will see there is a little down arrow graphic next to it. Press settings and it will open another tab . Inside will be, Airplane mode. Bluetooth. Gps. Mobile Networks. And Wifi. Press on the one you want and it will place a switch on the home screen.

Hopefully this helps.

It is waiting until Android 2.2 comes out with Flash 10.1 than it will work fine.

I've found something else:

The 'People' widget doesn't work any more, whenever I try to use it to call someone an error message pops up saying 'Call not sent, no valid number entered'. The same widget on the Hero worked fine.

Another thing, the 'All programs' list, is there any way to get it to stay as a list? Every time I turn the phone on it goes back to the 'Grid' view, it never remembers that my preference is the 'List' view.

I found also something that my desire doesn't remember. Each time I change my keyboard layout to azerty it automatically switches back to qwerty. Annoying as a belgian user.

"There is no icon to turn on/off the mobile network anymore. "

Hi there. I am with orange UK and there is an icon to turn on/off the mobile network. In fact there are separate icons to turn on/off Wi-fi, bluetooth as well plus an "airplane" icon that turns off all the above (in other words "PDA mode"). I also found in android market a free a program which displays a bar that does all of the above except the airplane mode but I can't remember the pr0gram name.
