hey to all fellow g1 fools.

got my phone yesterday morning and i cannot put it down. i know it is still early to ask this but i wanted to ask about the battery life of the phone. after i took it out of the box last night and played around with it for about 1 1/2 hours without charging it first it got down to about 25% power. i plugged it in before a went to bed and it was all charged up and good to go this morning. played around with some of the apps (no browser usage, and no 3G running) on the way to work and about 90 minutes into it power was down to 70%. that seems a bit fast to me. have you guys noticed anything like that or does this seem normal? this is my first smart phone so i have no base for comparisons.

also, can anyone suggest any online stores to buy a replacement battery?

im in the same situation. I played with it last night for a little bit and it was charging the rest of the night. It got unplugged this morning at 8:30am and by 11:30 i was down to 68%......... they need a really really big improvement on the battery.

The battery life does suck. I had to charge it in the middle of the day yesterday - it went completely dead. But I guess that's what can be expected with wifi, bluetooth, a bright screen, gps, apps running in the background, invisibility cloak...

Plus, you can't really compare it to an old style cell phone that was only used as a phone. These new AwesomePhones™, as I like to call them, we use them much much more. So it is unrealistic to expect the same kind of battery time. Although, the makers could have foreseen this and added a larger battery to the iphone and this new android phone, but that would have added bulk to the handset.

What did I do? I bought a Tekkeon TekCharge 1800. Its a small battery that you can use to charge the phone, or just run it. It says it should last for hours, and it was $50.

With all the movie watching, browsing, emailing, navigating, apps-in-the-background running I'll be doing, this seemed like the best option.

I've been using and carrying spare batteries for a few years now. I hate having to use in-car charges and the like, just as long as you make sure they're all fully charged on an evening you're golden.

I guess it's just the curse of the new mobile handsets that are hitting the market, like keegan mentions above, we're asking more and more from our mobile devices and the battery capacity is always going to fall short.

is there any way to turn off the programs to save battery life. Like when you hold down the home button they all pop up?

i dont know about these phones, but most batteries require a 'break in' period in order to obtain their full potential. i have heard some newer batteries dont need this, but i dont know if the G1 has them or not

Send a message via AIM to koffi
I'd suggest leaving it on vibrate as much as possible, and leaving instant message services off whenever you arent using them.
Also using a dimmer screen can help quite a bit.

same thing here, I played it in the morning for two hours and the battery went really down....
I found out that if you have the GPS on it will also take a lot of battery...so I turned the GPS off on settings, lower brightness and I was able to work with it for a longer time even using texting and the browser....
About the battery maybe you can buy it at amazon...hope it works well!

My phone always lasts me throughout the entire day. I go to school, so from about 7:00 to about 2:15, I only use it for texting and occasionally looking up information while doing worksheets/taking tests. :P When I get home, I play with it quite a bit for the rest of the night and when I go to bed around 11 or so, I plug it back in.

Things I did to help with battery life:
1. <25% backlight
2. 3G off (is it just me or is EDGE plenty fast?)
3. Wifi/Bluetooth never on unless using
4. Turned off all auto-sync for emails, contacts, etc
5. always on vibrate
