Good news about battery life.

Yesterday, I was at a location where G3 was not available. Battery life went down to 15 percent in 8 hours.

Today, at a different location where G3 was available. Battery life went down to only 62 percent in 8 hours.

WiFi, GPS and bluetooth are off on both days.

It is a correctable problem. Expect a fix from andriod team.

Good call keegan you're pretty much there. steveh has some solid suggestions too, though I suspect we'll see a fix for the battery life in the first major patch (read: not the first one). App manager would help a lot but I find cycling the power helps reset after a spell of heavy usage.

Hoping for a few long strides in the direction of improvement though, handset alliance.

My G1 has survived 24 hours without a charge two consecutive days in a row now.

I keep forgetting to plug it in at night.

Yesterday when I woke up it was around 20 something percent, today it was at 2%

It lasted me all the way till I got into work, sat down and started playing with the bartender application. I was trying to enter in the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster and it died on me. Ha ha.

Edit:

If you had the G3 setting on yesterday and there was no G3 avaliable that would explain the quick drain on the battery, searching for G3 drains the battery, so whenever you're not around G3, turn it off and switch to the G2/EDGE network.

the G1's battery life really does suck badly.

Reports from other topics suggest that a software update (RC29 iirc) helps, but here on RC7, its really bad.

lets hope the software update (when it actually gets pushed out..) fixes some of this stuff!

Yeah the battery life isn't so hot with RC19 either. Eagerly awaiting the new release which people seem to report improves the life.

The life does seem to be decent if you leave wifi, bluetooth, and gps off.

Is anyone working on a stronger battery for g1? A battery that last for less than one day is going turn off lots of people.

My battery on my first G1 was great,no complaints after 5-6 charge cycles, however no so much luck with a replacement G1 ( a new / sealed unit ) charged it up overnight, unplugged at 6am,it sat on my desk till 9am when I went to make a call it was at 12% and about dead....

Tried 4 more cycles and it was crap and the rear bottom got pretty warm a few times, went in to the local t-mobile store,no new ones, gave me one from a return phone,so no idea how many cycles it has or if it was disturbed during a charge....and now this one the battery icon drops 1/4 with in a half hour of just sitting idle, made a 4 minute call,it dropped to half.....

Called the store back and he was happy to try another used battery....as he has no new ones and has no idea when he will....so called t-mobile,got to the first stooge, sent me to stooge #2 and after 5-6 minutes on hold they disconnected me .......

t-mobile.....
