I use the free app called Power Manager, at a touch it will turn off GPS, 3g, bluetooth etc and dim the screen. It's a brilliant app and has doubled my battery life.

I use a free app called Power Manager. At a touch it will switch GPS, bluetooth, wifi, 3g etc and it will dim the screen right down. It can basically double you battery life if you use it often.

What I've found with the G1 battery and my poor battery life:
The phone worked great for the first 6 months or so, and then the battery wouldn't charge after on the charger all night long, all day after that too would only show 18-25% charge. The phone would constantly shut down and after waiting some time it would turn back on, but if i would turn it right back on it would just die before it even booted the sim card info. After about a week of this I put my battery in the wifes phone, it did the same thing. However her battery in my phone and it was like it was when I first got it.
After further examination of the batteries, my batter is "bulged" out from the center and does not sit flat. Now the sitting flat is not whats causing this issue. you can hold it in there or wedge it but it doesn't fix it. So comparison of the batteries shows there is some sort of defect in alot of these batteries causing them to swell and i assume after prolonged use like this and constant charging of a cell that wont charge might cause severe damage or injury and i recommend just replacing your battery if you are experiencing any of those things. don't risk ruining a 2-400$ investment.

i dont know about these phones, but most batteries require a 'break in' period in order to obtain their full potential. i have heard some newer batteries dont need this, but i dont know if the G1 has them or not

Things I did to help with battery life:
1. <25% backlight
2. 3G off (is it just me or is EDGE plenty fast?)
3. Wifi/Bluetooth never on unless using
4. Turned off all auto-sync for emails, contacts, etc
5. always on vibrate

I think this is only one way for users to save battery, but the true reason lies in the system desgin. I know this exectly what is related to the battery life. Our company ( Giayee) is an android phone OEM/ODM. We come accross the battery problem too. But we have resolved it in the end.
Dynamic FM can only solve this problem. Because dynamic fm can make some apps not eating so much battery. So the battery life will be long in the end.

I'm not sure if my G1 has an issue with its battery, because it turns off by itself, completely dead even if it is 100% fully charged. All I just did was web browsing (facebook, twitter) all the time, and should be charged all day long while it's in use.:-( Have been using my GI Phone since 1 year ago. Do you think my battery needs a replacement?

The battery is a very important part of the cellphone. When I need to buy a new one, the battery service time is one of the most important elements. I don't want to charge it everyday. What's more, if I need to travel, it is a troublesome with low standbyphone. To decease the borigng of the trip, I want to play my phone. But how if the standby is short.
