Hi all!

After a week using my new G1, checking my online bill, I've detected that the G1 is constantly connecting using 3G, every 5 minutes or so, and transfering about 5-10kb each time...

Looking at the mobile, I can see the 3G arrows working in such way, every 5 minutes... This is very extrange for me, because I've disable all the data sincronization options and the cell/wifi positioning is disabled too. Of course I've tested just after a reboot and the problem is the same.

What is making these estrange connections all the time? Is it possible to avoid this?

If it helps, I'm using a development G1.

Thanks in advance.

Do you use the email application (not the gmail one) that is on the phone?

I believe it has email frequency sync settings separate from the data synchronization settings on the phone settings.

If you open your email and then press 'menu', you should see several options, one of which is 'Account Settings'. In the Account Settings there is 'Email check frequency', which allows you to set how often it checks your email.

That's the only thing I could think of off the top of my head that you hadn't mentioned.

Nope, just resetting the phone to factory settings, the behaviour is the same.

Using the terminal application and the "netstat" app, I've seen that there is always a TCP connection to a strange IP and port, something like: 66.249.xx.xx:52xx

Finally I've decided to close the 2g-3g connection while I'm not using it, following the guidelines in this post, and now the data consumption and the battery levels behaviour is finally "normal"
