I am trying to copy some music on to my G1, (connected to the computer through USB). But every time i try adding anything i get the following error:

"Cannot copy 14: The disk is write-protected.

Remove the write-protection or use another disk."

does any one have any ideas on how to fix this?

Also its not letting me delete anything either.

Well after trying all day and even buying an SD card reader, i found out that my company has blocked all USB devices from downloading data. But I can still burn a cd with anything on it, corporate security you got to love it.

I'm having trouble as well. When I connect the android via usb and check it in my computer, it shows up as a drive, but when I click on it, it says to insert a disk. I've tried removing and reinstalling the sd card, and I read something about a setting in the "SD card and phone storage" menu where you can change the sd card to a mass storage device, but I can't seem to find that setting. It's not like there's 500 options in that menu either. Help?

I feel stupid too. I've had no problem with the sd card since I got it, but today I went in to change the "use for sd storage" setting and it's not there. I unmounted the card, put it back in, blah blah blah. Still don't have that setting. What's up..? Am I missing something obvious?

Go to "Settings\SD card & phone storage\ and then make sure "Use for USB storage" is checked. When checked and when your G1 is connected via the USB cable to your PC, you will be able to transfer files between the G1 and your computer. When finished, you will want to make sure you uncheck the box as you will not be able to access those files in your G1 unless the box is unchecked.

Ok I know that, but what I said is that under "SD card and phone storage" I don't HAVE that setting any more. It's gone. There is no "Use SD card for storage". It was there ever since I got my phone and then today, gone. I've tried turning it off and back on, it's not hooked up to my computer.. I've tried everything I can think of.

Regarding the prompt to insert a disk when plugging in your G1 to your computer via USB-- Apparently the RC29 update included a change to this function. I was super frustrated by the change to when trying to load up some of my favorite podcasts—I found the answer on another forum and felt kind of stupid when I read it. When you plug in the phone now- you will see an alert come across the top of the alert bar. Select that and select the option to “Mount” your phone. Simple as that. Hope it helps

Oh Lord...

Yeah, now I feel stupid again! Thanks for that.

I had no idea about this "RC29" update... I guess that's what I get for having a techie phone because it's cute and I love it and not because I'm a techie.
