Process acore ended

Hey, sorry for somewhat just joining up and not introducing my self etc.
But I've been looking around the forums and cant seem to find a solution for the problem.
Since around yesterday time, while using my HTC Hero, the touch screen would either think I wasnt pressing it, or would think I had my finger held on it. For example while texting I would say press the space key or delete key once and it would think my finger was still on it and either keeping spaceing, or delete everything I just typed. Same with letters, it would think I was holding it down to get a % instead of a G.
Since this morning however my touch screen has become unresponsive to my touch and every few seconds I will get the error message "Sorry! The process andoid.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." With this constantly poping up its almost impossible to do anything, and without touch working I can only access certain things using the scroll ball.
I've tried doing a factory settings reset as others said, but on the intro screen where I set my phone up, the error message still pops up every few seconds and the touch screen still does not work.
So is this a sign my phone has died on me and needs replacing, or is there a way to fix it my self??

Hiii there,

I have been facing this same issue with my HERO (Sprint).. recently i have update to stock rom 2.1 but the problems seems to be more violent now...please give me some solution if u have found one!!!

I too have recently started experiencing the same problem on my HTC Hero (Orange UK Network). Nothing I do seems to stop the problem. I am using 2.1 as well.

I will be calling my provider tonight for a new phone as I cannot do anything without the force close error message appearing.

Let me know if you discover a fix for this issue.
