Hi, ive had my Hero for two days now and i cant get my talk21.com email account to work on the phone :-( Its driving me nuts!!
I'm with Vodafone and they cant help as they dont 'support' the phone so have no settings, HTC dont have the settings and can merely 'tell me where to input them but not what they actually are'.

Does anyone use talk21.com email successfully with their Hero?

To clarify, talk21 are part of Yahoo and a guy at HTC said that Yahoo 'will not work' because HTC dont want it to! Eeek!

Any help greatly appreciated. Annoyingly all of this was effortless with the iphone

I had the same problem, I gave up in the end. I read somewhere that when talk21 went to a premium email provider they stopped supporting POP3 on the free version. Given how easy other providers accounts are set up I can only assume that this is true.

Hi Chaps

I've recently gone from a Blackberry to a HTC Desire. My talk21 account works fine

Talk21 was bought by BT years ago, the in.talk.21 & out.talk21.com are not operational any more. you need to do the following and use these settings:

1./ Log into you talk21.com account:

options

Mail options

POP3 & Forwarding

click on "allow forwarding"

Save.

Setting up the mail use these:

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - mail.btinternet.com

Port - 110

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - mail.btinternet.com

Port - 25

Job done!

why settle for pop3, when IMAP works with talk21 and not only does mail get pushed out faster with IMAP, but when you click refresh it will be received faster than pop3.

The other advantage is subfolders are also supported with IMAP but cant be seen with POP3.

This mail feature works with my android eclair & hero phone and the settings are exactly the same for win mobiles also (not tested). The mail setting up roadmap is the same from what i can remember once in the mail feature for win mobi.

This is what you need to do to setup Talk21 email with IMAP.

Incoming server settings
IMAP server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 143
Security type - none

Outgoing Server settings
SMTP server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 25
Security type - none

Also important note - Enable 'require sign-in'
and enter your talk21 username and password

The End...works a treat for me

p.s. Its only taken me 3 years to work it out with win mobile and recently with android. Finally got it to work...hope this helps all the talk21 users out there. if there are any other similar posts out there with no answer...dont forget to mention my name when passing this post around.

RichPie and Tej2020 are both right. Thanks for those posts.
I also found though that some of the older talk21 accounts no matter if you follow those instructions still don't validate the username.
Solution:
Login to your BT Yahoo email account with your firstname.lastname@talk21.com username and password.
Go to settings and forward your mail (temporarily) to another email account.
You will get a verification email in that account for security.
You'll probably see that the username is not firstname.lastname@talk21.com but firstname.lastname.t21@btinternet.com
Now here's the trick.
Go back to your BT Yahoo email.
Don't forget to disable the forwarding of email (otherwise you'll never get any new emails in this account).
Logout.
Now try logging in as firstname.lastname.t21@btinternet.com and your usual password.
Same account right?
Follow RichPie's instructions (below) for allowing the email to be POP'ed.
1./ Log into you talk21.com account:

options

Mail options

POP3 & Forwarding

click on "allow forwarding"

Save.

Now in your phone setup your email with

Setting up the mail use these:

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - mail.btinternet.com
Port - 110

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - mail.btinternet.com
Port - 25

and crucially, the username and password must be firstname.lastname.t21@btinternet.com with your password as this seems to be a migrated username/password combination on the migration of the talk21 accounts into Yahoo and is a popp'able account.

This should work.
