Can I Use Googlemail?

Hi all .... first post

Just waiting for my Hero (from Orange in the UK) to arrive today so doing some preparatory work. Simple question .........

All the sync info/advice/applications talk of using a Gmail account. Fine, no probs with that, I can set one up.

However, in the UK we can only have GoogleMail accounts (AFAIK ... .unless you know different).

Can I create a myname @ googlemail.co.uk account and sync to that in the same way that is so widely described for Gmail?

The rerason I ask is that some sync apps already use the term @ gmail.com hardwired into the set-up dialog boxes.

As far as i know gmail.com is the same as googlemail.co.uk.

I say this cause im in the uk but i had one of the original gmail.com beta accounts. when i set my g1 up it said enter your @googlemail.co.uk user name. I didnt put the @gmail.com at the end of my email address and it logs me in just fine!

The gmail and googlemail thing was all to do with a copyright issue in the uk. So the actual google branded apps should have @googlemail.co.uk prefixes. As for 3rd party apps i cant say. I only use the google mail app that came with the phone?

TVM Charlie ...... yes, I couldn't imagine that the UK Googlemail would not work with a Google O/S.

Got the Hero now, charged, SIM registered, mob no transferred and just out of the starting blocks
