Hi,

I hear a "click" sound when I start camera application. I didn't notice this sound before. it is a low sound but I can hear it if the environment is quite. I wonder whether other hero users can hear such a sound or not.

Sorry I was not very clear, I don't mean the shutter sound effect. I hear a low mechanical sound, can be the sound of lens during focusing. I don't know.

yep i get the sound you are talking about, i used to get it on my htc tytanII as well so it looks like its the type of lenses htc use in there cameras that move and click when operated.

well I am relieved to hear that this sound is common. I didn't have it in my old htc touch. It has been more than 10 days since I noticed that sound but I don't have any problem. After reading other comments, I think this sound doesn't related to a problem.
I noticed this sound after I started using barcod scanner programs, I don't why but the sound becomes more eminent with those programs.

Hey silmaril
I have the same mechanical click sound when opening barcode scanner from the android market. I own my htc hero for a couple of days and now am worried about if this click is some kind of malfunction. I didn't hear the sound when making pictures with the normal camera app but after using the barcode scanner for a while i got the same mechanical click you describe. Could this be a start of a bigger problem? Do u still use your htc hero with this clicking sound? I also noticed that if u open en close the camera app and hold the hero in a 45 degree angle the click is louder. Damn could this barcode scanner be a faulty program that bricked my htc hero? I am pretty worried...

Hi Grizloc,
I still use the phone w/o any problems with the camera. Interestingly, I started to notice the sound after I have used a barcod program as well. However, I don't think that this program caused physically damage on the lens. It seems very unlikely. I believe when I started to use barcod program the environmental noise was very low therefore I noticed this sound.
If more users share their experience (whether they hear this sound or not) than we will know better, but for the time being I don't think it is a problem.

Hi! I have the exactly same clicking sound when using my htc hero urban brown. It happens all the time i am using my camera. I am situated in Sweden, if it would make some difference :=)

Yea... and this only happens when I'm switching between video and photo modes and also when starting up camera mode for the first time

I made a quick internet research yesterday and noticed that there are many hero users (who are careful) hear the same click sound as well. I believe as "Bumbluff" states this sound is related to the type of lenses htc uses.
