Syncing - MAC > HTC Hero Sprint

I just purchased the HTC Hero w/Sprint. My question is Will iCal using Spanning Sync to sync with Google Calendar and AddressBook to Google contacts will the phone sync with both google calendar and contacts without me manually adding to the phone.

Also, the Sprint clock has the correct time BUT the HTC clock is one hour ahead and in looking at the settings in the clock menu it states Central Time as -5.00 hours BUT Central Time is -6.00 hours GMT.
