Coming from symbian I had the option to choose which connection type I wanted when I opened the browser.

On my Hero I have to know if I am connected to a wireless network first.

Is there an app or a setting that can help?

I am in the same boat - came from an E71. Far as I can tell it will use the wifi if its connected, otherwise it uses the 3G. There's no way to tell it which one to use. In somes ways its better and simpler than Symbian in that it takes the faster network route if available without need for the user to select the access point.

If you want to ensure you're just using wifi, turn off 3G and Edge using the method below:

1. Hold down the on/off button for a few seconds until the 'Phone Options' pops up.

2. Select 'Mobile network' and ensure it says 'Connect to Internet is OFF'.

This will turn 3G/Edge off, leaving just WI-FI when available and your network operator.

As said above, the Hero will connect using WI-FI first, then if thats not available it will use 3G... unless you do the above.

Seems that evil Rogers has removed this option from the "Phone Options" menu...anyone know a workaround for the LG GW620R (aka Eve)?

From my experimentation so far, it seems to *always* choose the slower, costly, mobile network over Wi-Fi. If I remove the SIM card, the Wi-Fi works great...and fast.
