Samsung Galaxy S questions from a newbie

hiya i would like to ask on the Galaxy S:


1. how can you set the phone in order for the photos to be saved directly and automatically to the microSD card?


2. how can i upload AVI videos to the phone's built-in memory?

is it easier to use Windows to do that? if Yes then how? and to which folder on the phone?


3. how can i change the phone's wallpaper?


4. can i also download apps from Samsung App World and be able to use it alongside the Android apps?


5. how do i know if there if there is a firmware update for my phone? is it via the website? or thru the phone?


6. what is the best way to update the phone's software or firmware? over the air or via a PC software? ( i heard Samsung Keis is a mess and very slow and buggy).


7. can i change the phone's folder icons? if yes then how?


8. can i use a known 3rd-party software (like Media Monkey or iTunes) to transfer my MP3 files to the Galaxy S? if yes then how? and to which folder on the phone

6. I use OTA and that works flawlessly
8. I try to avoid iTunes as far as possible. Mount USB and use e.g. windows explorer. I guess Media monkey will work too

Isn't samsung app world just for Samsung Wave and similar devices!? I also avoid PC to mobile phone software as far as possible..

open the camera, Tap the little triangle, then tap the Gear, then tap the wrench, then scroll down and you will see Storage. Then simply change it from phone to memory card

Hook your Galaxy S up to your PC, create a folder on your device, put your avi's in that. Then simply navigate to that folder on your phone and play the files

On the home screen (or anywhere you can see the wallpaper) simply touch and hold on the wallpaper, a menu will pop up, then choose Wallpapers


4. can i also download apps from Samsung App World and be able to use it alongside the Android apps?

Once Samsung apps become available (they're not on my Captivate yet) then yes you can

5. how do i know if there if there is a firmware update for my phone? is it via the website? or thru the phone?

It will be OTA, you can check for updates by opening your dialer and typing *#*#CHECKIN*#*# this will check for updates on your phone (and apps)

Read above. You can also hit (from the home screen) menu > settings > Software update to check for updates

7. can i change the phone's folder icons? if yes then how?

Do you mean the "main 4" on the bottom? Then yes. From the applications screen, press Menu > Edit Now you can long touch the "main 4" icons and drag them off the menu bar. you can also long touch whatever app you want and drag it onto the menu bar.

don't know, but he folder shouldn't matter

Hey Stay puff man thanks so much. you are the guys that people want. (not unlike Samsung Forums where it's simply rubbish. no one replies to your queries there)

anyways, i do have more questions though:

1. how do i know if there if there is a firmware update for my phone? will the phone "alert" me?

2. is there a way to permanently delete deleted items from the recycle bin?

3. is there a way to make auto-rotate better? (i've seen videos fro Youtube that it roates smoother and better. or is it just me?)

4. in saved Galleries my .avi videos is named under “Camera”. Why is this? is there a way to edit it and not be named under Camera?


5. any tips on how to save battery life? ( i had mine fully charged and when i started playing Asphalt 5 the battery life start sloooowwllly draining away).

6. i have several MP3 music files on my galaxy S. but some of them have no Album art. how can i "get" the Album (or Artist) Art? can i "ask" the phone using the internet to get the Album art?
