Under "Menu > Settings > SD card & phone storage" I have no menu item for "Use for USB storage". Is this a toggle somewhere?

I have the RC29 update.

Any ideas?

It appears the RC29 update removes the option from the settings menu, and instead it appears as a notification on your home screen.

Connect the G1 via USB and you should see a notification appear, pull the bar down and select the MOUNT option from the notification.

Hope that helps!

When I connect to pc running Windows Vista Ultimate, I get an error message about unrecognized usb and I do not get any notification or icon on the G1.

I have a 8GB micro SDHC card in the G1 and can see all the pictures and ringtones on it.

Are you connecting with a USB 2.0 port? I had the same issues using USB 1.0

It appears that after the umpteenth time connecting it to my laptop, the USB icon finally appeared on the notification bar. ALAS!!!

I struggled with this on my old box running ubuntu 8.10 until i read this post and tried the usb ports on the motherboard rather than the additional ones on the front of the box, or the USB extension cable i have set up, now works fine.

Try all your available USb ports on older boxes in case some are 1.0 and other 2.0, that's my advice.

I suspect the culprit was an old USB 1.0 cable. When I switched to a newer USB 2.0 cable it worked. Point is mute, I switched to a Sony Xperia X1 phone with WM 6.1. Now I don't have to worry about synching with outlook anymore.
